Hello to anyone that reads this,
Does anyone know what the process is that LL goes through when they process my USD balance to paypal? Obviously there's a first person component to it because if it was automated it wouldn't take 0 to 5 days to process.
Thanks!

Two theories: (1) They run thorough fraud analysis of the account's financial transactions, making sure the money involved was not obtained illegally (like purchasing stolen lindens on eBay). (2) The process-credit order sits in somebody's "to do" box for 3-5 weeks before they get around to dealing with it. As LL customer service seems woefully understaffed these days, I'm guessing it's #2.

Ok, it works like this. When you hit the process credit button, an email is sent to Myron Linden. He then prints out the email, usually within 48 hours. He makes 3 copies. A blue one that goes to accounting, yellow one that goes to the financial counsel group, and a pink one that goes to payment processing. These copies arrive at the various departments through interoffice mail usually within 3 business days. Each department has a separate process to vet each credit request. They each each make a copy of the credit request and initial it. Each department then sends their initialized copy to the paypal liasons.
The paypal liasons then prioritize the credit requests based on several criteria, status of the account, size of the credit, country of origin, gender and primary cultural assocation (goth, furry, BDSM, ageplayer, griefer, etc.). They then draw straws to see who is going to go pick up lunch that day. After lunch, they then begin to prepare the requests to be sent to paypal. This time they make 5 copies and send one to each of the departments that have handled the request thus far. They finally put the request in an envelope and then send it over to document processing. Document processing puts the request in a secret box and holds it there for 4 business days, just in case.
Once document processing is ready to release the request, they call Myron, and leave him a voice mail. When Myron recieves the voice mail, usually within 72 hours, he pulls up the original request, pushes a purple button and the request is processed and the money ends up in your account.

Didn't you all know, the longer they keep the money, the more interest they accumulate. They only release the money after they have squeezed all they can out of it; and then give it to you...but, only after you have complained a lot. *Looks for a guy named Myron, and asks him as she opens her blouse, "Are you 'interested'?*

Between the length of time SL takes to "process" my credit and the amount of time PayPal takes to actually deposit to my account, I'm looking at 3 weeks to get payment out of Second Life.
Not really encouraging for me to seriously invest time into the platform as a means of income, therefore.
How do the big guys do it? I honestly wonder sometimes. I can't pay bills from SL (except my tier) because I can't get my money fast enough. So how do people make a living from Second Life?

They (LL) don't use PayPal MassPay yet. They said they were going to eventually but I guess that was another pipe dream.
So now I sell my L$ on SLex. They use MassPay and sometimes credit my PayPal account within a few hours, and always by the next day..

Invariably, Myron Linden, in accounting, fails to file an updated TPS report on your account using the new TPS reporting sheets. Then, Fawaz Linden, who has the only valid copy, gets it stuck in the copying machine down the hall...

ive never had one take longer then a week except once when there was a holiday weekend
you could go to a site like slexchange but fees are higher
also with recent paypal issues that might be making it take longer
and there is no way i know of to speed up the process other then planning it out in the future if you need the money on a friday start the process the friday before

From: Alaska Metropolitan I'm looking at 3 weeks to get payment out of Second Life... How do the big guys do it? I honestly wonder sometimes. I can't pay bills from SL (except my tier) because I can't get my money fast enough. So how do people make a living from Second Life? Well for starters don't live paycheck to paycheck. A standard piece of advice to any freelancer is to always keep several months worth of money in the bank to live on because you can't count on new money coming in fast enough. Basically, don't think in terms of spending the money you are getting, think in terms of spending the money you already have and money coming in just happens to be refilling your bank account every now and then. The mindset is like gas in your car; you aren't burning fuel straight from the pump, you use fuel in the tank which is occasionally refilled. Believe me, the lag in getting your money from LL is quite normal compared to the wait times freelancers routinely encounter in getting payment from customers/clients. Working for the government is the worst; with them it is not unusual to be paid an entire frickin year later.
