Lindens... if you are listening... Please can we transfer the "Top 5 Tips for the Newly Born" thread to whatever takes over from here? Many people have found it very useful, and it was endorsed and stickied by Torley.

A Vote and a comment. I never take advice and tips dont really help. When I first logged in - my initial days in sl - I tried to seek help from a mentor service sl offered that was next to useless. An opionated male helper offered weak advice but was far more interested in setting up ridiculous flamingoes for halloween than answering my questions. I learnt by my own mistakes - and since I am immersionist , I made many mistakes. Then I had the misfortune to encounter Lindens who offered help inworld. Mine was a lamb (literally - I would have eaten her in real) who sputtered her way through a "Oh dear, yes, what horrid neighbours!" interaction with me before I dismissed her as nothing more than a computerized volunteer worker with hyposcrisy and "next to useless" as her middle names. Leave teh tips out. I prefer the following rules: 1. Rule Number One: Read Rule Number Two. 2. Rule Number Two: There Is No Rule Number Two.

I think you have made an excellent point Imogen and I am sorry if I wounded so abruptly. Please forgive me. I am just sorry that it will soon be imaterial. Within months I think sl will cease to exist as we have known it, anyway.

No problem Jig, I was not offended at all. You have the right to your opinion and absolutely no need to apologise. I am almost reluctant to ask, since it is bound to derail the thread... but on what do you base your view that SL will soon cease to exist? As we know it? In my view, SL has never existed 'as we know it'.... it's always changing, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse, but never static. After three years, I have grown accustomed to the ups and downs and I am still here. I have heard a lot of people say, following some change or other..."that's it... SL is ruined... I'm off". I am sorry if this time it might be you, but I am severely 'immersed' and I wont be going anywhere in the foreseeable future. Imogen

The stickies serve an important function. They're easy to find and it keeps people from, hopefully, asking the same questions over and over again once they move from the first few pages.
I spent a lot of time in the forums when I was new and I read all the stickies. But I think we could rewrite them, or edit the existing ones to add updated information.
