Events rules to be enforced

In a rather shocking move, the Lindens are claiming they will enforce rules on events:

I'm very much in the actions speak louder than words camp here, it's hardly encouraging when they ask if you've looked at the events calendar lately and seen the spam fest, it has been going on for ages.

If they actually do it, then fair play to them but I've heard it all before on enforcing policies.

Trust is built on behavior over time. Given LL's proven track record I expect to see solution providers and other associates of Lindens left to spam all they want and any of their competitors severely disciplined along with all the hopelessly clueless that assumed it was OK because everyone had been doing it for years and years. And in the case of the latter we will see endless streams of the same question in Second Life Answers.

How can anyone assume that a application created in 2002 is relevant to anything happening in today's internet? Look at the functionality of Facebook's Event Calendar. LL should just GOM it like they did xstreet.

They claimed this once before. But the Event calendar is so useless even when rules are enforced it will be a waste of manpower.

Linden Lab needs to change the calendar and make it work - not just harass the commercial advertisers.

The calendar is so out-dated. We need to be able to send event information to our friend's list through the calendar. Also have a picture gallery as part of our event listings to show off the venue and FIX THE 404 ERROR MESSAGE.

Also When I choose to bookmark an event it should show up in a a MY EVENTS tab on my profile.

And there needs to be a section for product sales that have start and end times enforced.

Yea you should make some jira feature requests for that stuff. Good ideas.

And don't forget to add a request for a "My Calendar" for a place to keep track of stuff and meetings.

I stopped trying to go to events that weren't announced in groups that I'd already joined. The events calendar just doesn't scale and well, it'd take a lot more manpower than LL has to keep it policed. Or.. is LL expecting the residents to police it for them?

They actually do need to change the rules, and the Events listing page, to account for their new Adult policy they implemented five months ago. Under the current rules, any Events with Adult content would be required to be marked Mature, which is not allowed as an option for Adult-set land.

I use the events tab in world all the time to find live music. (I specify "events tab in world" in case people are talking about something else, like the events on the website)

I took the warnings on the events page here at this website seriously. I was personally in attendance and actually hosting past events I held.

I don't know how some fly in the face of the rules and do otherwise.

They're different?

I do not know if they are or not, which is why I specified that I was referring to using the in world events tab. Which I find quite useful for live music hopping.

Maybe at the same time they can make realistic rules for people who hold, yknow, events?

Because of the time zones issue, typically when I run an event it is 24 hours long. I have to break it into a bunch of small chunks and I can not even put up all of them myself on the same day.

Second Life needs to be a place in Craigslist...maybe its own country, with states and cities.

Problem solved.
