I think I know the answer but curious. The land thats for sale in the auctions, are the small plots land that people have given back to the lindens ? And if you surrender land to lindens if it just gone ie no credits ? If so why would anyone just give it away ?

People give the land back to governer linden don't think. They are trying to reduce their tier fee, but if they just do a little research they can sell it to a landbaron at least 7L per m2 or reduce the price and a landbot will grab it and at least they will get something back.

Right. Abandoning land makes no economic sense at all, given that any land for sale is being snapped up by a landbot within minutes if priced slightly below the current L$/sq market floor.

It could also be land that's been reclaimed, i.e. people quit the game and don't pay their tier, after a while the gov'ner will sieze the property and auction it off.

I agree, abandoning land makes no sense at all.

Also, from what I understand, there is no automated process to get abandoned land into the auction queue, they have to manually set each plot up into the system for sale.

I think it made a bit more sense when First Land was still around..

Actually, to get the most for your buck and still sell instantly, go to land search, sort by "For sale: Mainland" and then price your land at one tenth per meter less than the lowest price per meter land on the first page of the search. So if the lowest per meter is L$9.6, set yours for L$9.5 per meter.

The other way LL gets land back is when people don't pay their land use fees and it gets "foreclosed" on.

someone on my sim just abandoned 2 x 1024 plots earlier this month. she had them up for sale at L$27,000 each. as you can imagine, they were up for quite a while. one day one was abandoned. shortly after, the other also.

i IMed her asking if there was a problem. i thought maybe she accidently abandoned them (but both?) or had got fed-up with SL and just left or whatever. she responded that they weren't selling so she abandoned them.

i decided not to offer any response since my rl jaw had just dropped.

so i agree with you destiny. i know i would have bought one of them is she had just reduced the price.

Probably found some way to write them off as a business tax loss for more than she'd get lowering the price. I dunno.

You don't even have to worry about looking a $L per meter if you want to sell land quickly.

I wanted to get rid of some land fast, so I did the search suggested and priced my plot at $L1 less than the lowest showing. It sold in less than 1 minute. It was even at a small profit, since I had bought the land the same day as the original owner bought it at auction. Worked for me!

Does LL aution small plots of abandoned and reclaimed land or do they just put it up for sale at a set price? How do i find this land?

How do landbots work? (or is this a trade secret?)
07-28-2007 07:26
Are they avatars? Scripted objects? What? How are they able to search land listings, transport to the land, and buy it, before the rest of us even know it is for sale? And are they programmed to automatically calculate and look for the lowest price per meter, or does a a specific amount or some other parameter have to be entered into them by their owner? Are they active all the time, or only when specifically deployed? And how do they handle all those fake listings at the top of the list, claiming things likeL$1 and such, which is just a come on, and not a true sale price on the land? Do they function independently, or does their owner have to be present (at least at the keyboard), to control their actions?

I'm just very curious, since there is always so much talk about them. I'd really like to underdstand how they work. (No, I'm not going to morph into a bot!)

Yes they are avatars run with a scripted program (I don't know how it works, that is for a bot runner to answer). They hammer the mainland listings only so they don't get fooled by estate listings. because they are automated, the can get to a plot faster and buy quicker than someone with human reflexes. they function independently. The bot runner wakes up in the morning and checks how many plots his bot bought. Yes they are set to buy any land BELOW a certain amount. Some bot runners set them to buy only the cheapest land so they are only getting mistakes which is their intention. Others set theirs a bit higher and return mistakes.

Thank god for that, or I would never have got my PI land at the price I did.
