Don't mean for this to sound like an advertisement but I was wondering if anyone else here on the forums uses Plurk. I just started today because it seems to be better than twitter but other than the person who cued me into to it, it doesn't seem like many people in SL use it yet. Post your url here if you use it I guess.

Sigh . . .You folks make me feel old. To be honest I have heard the term "twitter" used more frequently lately but never knew what it is. Now I followed your link to see what it is so I won't sound ignorant in today's world.

I'm afraid I still don't know what it is.

I Plurk! I've been hoping it would catch on with some of the posters here.

There is actually a growing SL crowd over there, including some of the folks that post at SLU. Feel free to friend me. :)

Weston, I don't Twitter, but my impression is that it works like a mini-blog where people make spontaneous entries through the day. I'm not sure how you follow someone's Twitter, I assume you are notified when friends or people you follow make a new entry.

Plurk is more like an extremely casual forum, where people just post random thoughts, pics, videos, etc. Your Plurk page works like a timeline where your entries plus the entries of people on your friends list appear. You click on the entries to expand a window and chat back and forth, rather like a forum thread.

It is silly, light, and friendly. I've also found it to be rather addictive. :p

Not a member, way too busy to be able to devote time to dev and update a page :( But if you enter "Second Life" in the Plurk search you come up with 415 names.

Thanks for the explanation. That does sound like fun. I guess I didn't understand these things because I spend a lot of effort in trying NOT to stay in touch with people - -at least not all the time, even to the extent of unplugging my phone.

When the human race eventually becomes a Hive Mind count me out -- but I still may lurk over there for a time.

I'm on Twitter and Plurk. I personally found Plurk to be a bit too free form, and confusing visually. Twitter seems more oriented to getting out real information, not just gossip (although there is PLENTY of that too there). For instance, many people in SL, such as the major bloggers use Twitter to do updates.

Twitter is very useful for me in keeping in touch during the daytime with my BF also (as is Facebook). Between texting, and those two it makes it very easy for us to get messages to each other without having to use the phone and potentially annoy my bosses several times a day :p

Both are used for imparting needless inane and mindless mental musings but somehow Plurk seemed a bit more mindless to me so I stopped using it.

I wouldn't dispute that it is mindless at all. I really don't socialize inworld, so I like the chance to just chit chat. There are always people there, so while I read forums and blogs I have plurk open too for the interaction.

I'm on Twitter and Plurk. Honestly, I despise the Plurk interface. Threaded discussion is nice. Threaded discussion that with a difficult interface is not terribly useful. the horizontally-scrolling Plurk timeline reminds me painfully of the new Second Life home page, so I access the mobile Plurk page from my browser to make it tolerable. Mostly, though, I use Twitter and read Plurk.

I was rather pleased, however, when Plurk made Second Life a country in the list of countries you can choose among. First Plurk, next the UN!

Ditto, and ditto.

I do enjoy reading Plurk when I have a few free moments at work. It does amuse me quite a bit.

I'm strangely shy trying to friend people on Plurk, though (just like in SL....shortest friends list ever).

On the Frank Zappa album "Joe's Garage" there is a track called "Sy Borg" where the word "Plook" is a euphemism for, you know. If you know the song, put "Plurk" in place of "Plook".
