question about sandboxes

another thread mentioned sandboxes and how laggy they are... my question is... would ppl be willing to pay an hourly fee to enter a private sim if they know that crap like nerve monsters and junk will be cleaned up consistantly.

also if ppl are paying to use this sim as a sandbox, wouldn't it kinda cut down on the amount of ppl using it just to grief?

I was thinking maybe something like 100L per hour usage (set up with the pay to enter option on the land)

do you think ppl would use it?

would you use it if you had to pay, knowing you will not have to deal with all the junk seen on the other sandboxes, also would it help if it was monitored by security who could ban and remove problem ppl and items?

l$100 per HOUR?? You're crazy. I rent 512m on a private island with full land ownership rights for about l$300 per WEEK, and NO lag.

When given the option between using something for free and paying to use the same or similar thing they'll typically opt for the free version. I'm not sure if "instant clean-up and griefer control" provides enough value for people to pay the L$100 per hour charge when sims clean themselves at regular intervals and griefers have to put on their feety pyjamas and snooze with their wubbies for at least a few hours a day.

People also have the option of owning their own land and thus don't have to set foot in the sandboxes.

Based on a L$100 per hour charge it would require 788 billed hours per month to cover the monthly private island fee.

Actually, I like the idea of having other builders around me. I don't necessarily want to talk, it just gives me a sense of community to have them there working a few tens of meters away.

So I doubt I would rent to build. -- KC

100L an hour was a random number I plugged in, not saying I am doing this nor do I plan to do this, heck I can not even manage to make enough to cover a measly 8 US a month tier fee, no way in hell I can buy a sim LOL

I personally would pay 100L an hour to be able to build in piece without someone spamming me, nuking me, or having to build 700 meters up to avoid all the trash, I could do in that one hour what it would take me now in a sandbox 3 hours to do, lag in sandboxes plus trying to get away from all the crap that attacks when one tp's in, is nasty

100L is what....68 cents US IF you have to buy them,. not like it is a large sum of money for piece of mind.

anywho, please do not flame me or attack me for putting the thought out there, as I said the 100L was just a number out of the air, it is not nor was not anything I am planning to do.

thank you for um pointing out that I am crazy, appreciate it :)

as for the 512 plot what happens if you are building something that requires more prims that a 512 can handle or it needs a bigger footprint, where do you go then?

(some shoes I have seen well exceed the 512 prim allotment)
anywho... rock on

I think it would be a pretty good idea. I know I've built some stuff on my 512 plot that exceeded my prim allowance........actually had to stop building and take some of the house just to finish my "project". Not sure how often I would use a "pay" sandbox, but if they were available I sure would look into them. :)

well if someone takes this idea and goes with it I hope they post here as I too would be interested in checking one out

if paying a few lindens would ensure that I would not have to deal with a crap load of stuff when trying to build I am all for it

oh and I have my own land, my own store etc, but the prims are not there for building anything big as I use the prims... for my store LOL

anywho...

public anything is becoming useless, as more and more people join Sl and a lesser percentage than ever before are 'giving back' public spaces are lmore and more often jammed with griefers and idiots. best bet is to join group with a common interest and make your own spaces.

yep

and more and more new players that jump into land ownership with a 1 year premium account and never come back have 512 plots that are jammed full of junk and trash

OR they put outrageous prices on them hoping to sell them to those of us who want to beautify our surroundings

god I dream of owning a sim someday, I do not care if it is mainland or private, just a whole sim to call my own....

I do not want to rent it at an ongoing length of time, nor do I want a platform, I want to be able to build on the ground if need be, without harressment of griefers like there are in public sandboxes

I have a place to build, I am just saying if I did not I would pay 100L an hour for the times when I need a bigger place to build.

I ran 'premium memberships' on SkyBeam Sandbox for a while. Granted access to private levels above the sandbox and no auto return. The idea behind no auto return was so they could come, build for several hours and not have to worry about return. Once folks started setting up permanent offices up there and tying up prims other builders could use, I discontinued the program. It was nice, it tended to earn me about half back what it costs me to run the sandbox, but the few ruined it for the many, as it were.

I charged 350L a week and usually had 4-7 people paying at any given time.

SkyBeam Sandbox is fairly well policed and usually not overly laggy. Feel free to drop by.
