Mystery Crashes and ATI Graphics Cards

Hi, all.

A few days ago I posted a thread here about constant crashing since 1.15. The general consensus seemd to be that it was caused by my ATI Graphics card not keeping up with SL's use of OpenGL, so I was doomed to get a new graphics card or keep on crashing.

Yesterday, somebody posted a thread about an independent viewer that fixes a memory leak. I went and got it. I haven't crashed since I started using it.

SL's response to this information was to delete the thread.

If you are having crash problems, I heartily recommend this viewer:

http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.com/2007/06/release-day-nicholaz-edition-17a.html

Go to the downloads and get:

nicholaz-17e.zip

read and follow the installation instructions.

Wasn't there something about only downloading the viewer from a reliable and trustworthy place (no judgment here about the OP or the site that is referred to!)?

I mean, you only get Firefox from the offical Firefox-site for a reason...

*Reliable*. There, I think you have your answer.

Definitely don't download it unless you are sure that you can trust him, to do that, have a look at Jira, and have a look at the threads that people have posted about his version of the viewer (esp. people that you trust). :)

Next, to be completely fair, do the same for LL's regular viewer.... hmm...

All I can tell you is that I have tried/am trying it.

My mystery crashes (previously blamed on ATI not updating their drivers fast enough to keep up with SL) stopped immediately.

If you are crashing (ostensibly for no reason), I suggest you try it. If you're not crashing, there's no reason to try it.
