I've been using SL since July with no problems.

But here's whats happening since this latest update:

I cant seem to login unless i disable my firewall.

Now I understand the basics of a firewall. To run a program, such as SL, the firewall has to have permission and allow the program to run. I've done that both manually and also when the firewall window asks for permission. I show SecondLife.exe as allowed in my permissions list.

Still it wont work.

Any ideas?

Thank you for any help.

When I had stupid Norton it LOOKED like the firewall was all right but I had to constantly clear the list of SLs and re-allow it. After updates, I suppose it was. I got trained to reset the firewall at the same time as updating.

I'm using the one that comes with AOL. (ya i know there is apt to be AOL bashing but it and the firewall have worked really well for me).

I'm going to do like another poster said...go clear out all of the SL stuff and try it again.

Like I said though..i dont get it because I've manually loaded the permissions(SecondLife.exe) and also Clicked ALLOW when the firewall asked specific info as to whether to allow it.

Lets see what else....I'm using Windows XP...not sure what else to tell you guys.

I know I can go into SL with the firewall disabled...get logged in very easily that way...spend a few minutes there to make sure it is all working...then while SL is still open, I'll enable my firewall and baam! SL will freeze up and the hourglass starts up and never stops. I have to shut my computer off to get anything going again.

if anyone has further ideas, please let me know. And thank you for the help so far! I appreciate it alot! I'm going to go try clearing out the SL stuff and trying again and will update here...

Sincerely,

Isabeau

Okay, as Osprey suggested, I went and deleted the SL related permissions in my firewall, then restarted SL.

and it now works.

I have no clue why, but it does.

Thank you all for your help.
