Hacked? Or something else?

So here's a weird situation that came up. My girlfriend and I were playing SL earlier, and she had gotten a bunch of funny toys, they were originally made by the PN, and since we'd both been reading about them recently, she thought it'd be funny to rez them and see what they looked like.

So she rezzed one of them. It wasn't scripted or anything that we could see, was just a dinosaur of sorts. So then she tries to take it back, and I see it go away, but she doesn't. Then she rezzed this little box that flashes, and she decides to log out and log back in, because she needed to go do something real fast.

Anyway, she tries to log back in, and it wont let her, at all. She didn't get any emails about her account status, or anything like that. Then she tries to use AIM, MSN Messenger, and hotmail, and none of them work. She can still use Skype, and go to most any websites, except the Second Life ones and ones pertaining to msn and aol, except those. I just was wondering, cause I didn't think it was possible, and thought it was another issue, if it's possible to be hacked from inside the SL client?

Can you get viruses/bugs/worms/whatever while playing Second Life?

EDIT; Now she's recieving this message "Unable to login; Login Packet never received."

Just as an aside for information, she uses a mac.

Did she try rebooting the computer? That's one of the first things I do if it starts acting funky.

With the official client rather not. With open source clients, everything is possible.

I really have no idea, but some things she could try are: Clearing her SL cache (which you can do without logging in) and clearing her temporary internet files. She might also try uninstalling SL, removing all system files not removed in that process and then reinstalling completely fresh.

*hmms* Also, have her restart her modem and router if she's got 'em. MSN starts acting really funny for me when the network needs a restart, usually by refusing to log in or slowing down drastically for no apparent reason. This more often happens for me right after a power outage of any sort too, though I have no idea why.

I don't know what to Suggest in this instance as every logical step seems to have been covered, My response is more in the form of a general warning.

IF you have an Unfamiliar object, if you do not know what it is, or where it came from Take it to a SCRIPT DISABLED Sandbox, and Open and examine it there. If you still can't tell what it is, Just delete it.

Best advice IF you didn't Buy it, or receive it from a trusted friend, you probably didn't ask for it, you don't need it, and you should Dump it.

Angel.

If you say it effected some of her messengers, i have to assume something flaky happened with her internet access. You've probably tried resetting the modem and or router i hope. You call the ISP yet? I don't know much about PN other then what they do to try to hurt us furries, and fail miserably at it. I do know of this dinosaur you mention, but i don't think it's even scripted as far as i know. I remember seeing it once while one of my neighboring sims was under attack.

I might be ISP issues like an overloading router somewhere along the line that's dropping a lot of packets. She should do a traceroute and see if there's an issue. Things she can access without any problems might be routing differently and avoiding the problem. It's most likely completely unrelated to anything she was doing in SL.

I know someone else who has this problem. It happened a few hours ago about 6.00AM, they can still use Skype. Im trying to find out if they 'opened' a freebie or something. Im wondering if its a port issue as it only affects MSN and SL for them. You dont say if she was using 1st look or regular viewer.....maybe something to do with voice?
Im just guessing here as I know feck all about this sort of thing.
