Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this silliness.

Today I stopped by a grocery store and while browsing the medicine aisle the Second Life logo jumped out at me -- on a box of contact lens cleaner solution.

I found this link showing the product:

http://www.amo-inc.com/site/products/2complete_moistureplus.asp

That brought up the question - what is the SL logo really? Is it a hand, an eye, or a hand with an eyeball in its palm?

Or is it Kokopelli's head? --KC

I think SL's logo it is quite obviously a hand with an eye in the palm.

This other logo reminds me of the Sun and in fact that exact logo appears in one of the addon packs for 'The Logo Creator' software.

The SL logo means "Talk to the hand. And be careful - we might not be listening, but we are watching you".

Here's another rip-off:

While it does look similar to SL "hand" logo, it's hardly THE logo... and yes, it's obviously a hand with an eye in the palm.

The sad thing is, websites and web/communication companies by and large follow really annoying logo trends. The "swoosh", the "arc" and the "fan" and at one time and I bet you bucks that when LL founded itself the "spiral" (yes all real trends) was the hot new logo fad of the day :)

I think it was Logitech who started the current trend, the "kinda hand-drawn looking thingy with an eye or something in the middle and some streaks around". At least their logo is the first of this sort that I remember:

I Can't find a Photo, but there is also the hand of Actress Caroline Munro in "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad".
The Eye in the palm of the Hand seems a fairly common Surrealist Image.

The Eye-In-Hand has a long, rich history in art, religion and culture - Linden Lab merely embraced it, they didn't create it.

There are probably many other sites where more historical detail is explored, but I enjoyed the art on that site :)
