I'm a little confused here - it is a long time since I've tried to use it. Is there a SL Beta Grid any more? If not, is there any way to work on and test things like animations etc. without having to pay everytime you want to bring in and test them?

You access the beta grid, Aditi, by choosing it from the drop-down list of grids on the login screen (press control-shift-G to get that menu). It's been a while since it required a separate viewer.

Some of the servers are running a version with bugged uploads, but there are sims that allow uploads just fine.

The Emerald viewer allows for temporary texture uploads so some people just use that. I don't know if it does animations as I don't use it (and I like hanging out on Aditi).

Emerald does not do temporary uploads of animations, but goes one better. When you preview an animation before uploading, it does it to your avatar in world instead of in that little window. Very cool.
