I have Dell notebook using an integrated Intel graphics card (gasp)...I know, I know....NOT COMPATIBLE. I learned this AFTER becoming hooked! My pc is new with duo processors and fairly robust in every other way so I can't just scrap the pc..certainly meets all the other reqs. I am able to use SL at least for a while b/4 crashing. In the begining, I actually had no problems. It seems to have gotten progressively worse over time, so I question whether the incompatability is progressive or cumulative in some way??? My real question is whether it is causing real damage to my machine using SL and crashing? Any help would be very appreciated.

Is the laptop acting up more in general or is it just with SL? Without knowing specifics, I would guess that the problem is SL, but I could be wrong. Its not likely that SL is killing your laptop.

It could very well be killing hs laptop. SL runs at 100% CPU utilization, and so his laptop processor may get very HOT. If the low-end graphics card is off-loading processing back to the CPU, more problems. The extra heat build-up inside a laptop could be enough to cause damage to any number of components inside.

Does your laptop have any system monitoring software, that would let you check CPU temp and any other temp sensors? If it does, run it, and see how hot you are running your computer.

Or just play SL with the laptop actually ON your lap!! You'll see what I mean.

This is one of two reasons why I retired my poor abused laptop when I became addicted.

Oh, and if you decide to play SL with the laptop on your legs, wear some pants, not shorts or undies. It BURNS.

I stand corrected. I guess SL CAN shorten the life of a laptop. The above explanation seems very plausible. If the OP has to run SL on a laptop things might go better with a good laptop cooler. They tend to be fairly inexpensive, but they do drain your battery quicker. I use one on my laptop, which actually has an older GeForce Go 150 GPU and dedicated memory. 10 minutes of SL does heat it up without the cooler.
