OK so I have a sculpted prim rock. When I sit on it, I sit somewhere above or around it. With my minute understanding of sculpted prims I can vaguely understand what causes that. The question I have is:
When I place an object (a cube) where I want to sit on the sculted prim I'm able to sit on that objectjust fine. BUT - When I stand up I'm trapped inside the sculpted prims invisible barrier.
Is there a way around this without making the sculpted prim Phantom?
Thanks in advance for your tolerance of my ignorance.

I believe the problem is that sculpted prims are only sculpted for the viewer, i.e. the work to render them is done client-side.
On the server side, all sculpted prims are handled somewhat like spheres or elongated spheres. When you try and walk on them or sit on them, the server puts you where it thinks you should be relative to the 'invisible sphere' that it is using for the sculpted prim.
A possible solution would be to add a script to the sculpted prim that included a sit-target (which would put the avatar in the right position and height) and then when you stand up it would make the sculpted prim go phantom for a second or two, so you could 'get away' without getting stuck inside it.

Another solution is to make your sculptie phantom and use invisible prims for any sit target or walking surface.

From: Sylvia Trilling Another solution is to make your sculptie phantom and use invisible prims for any sit target or walking surface. I made some chairs and sofas and set them to phantom and added a poseball. Works, too. You can always hide the poseball.
