As I've always suspected, even based on the name of the company that runs SL, and some pretty strange experiences that I've had in SL with so called avatars: http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2010/02/philip-rosedale-ai.html#moreSL is a part of the inexorable process towards the Singularity. Hold on to your seats, the future is coming at you faster than you think!

I hope he names it Yogi. I'm sure it will be smarter than the average Linden.

Hope for the singularity is a big part of why I joined SL. I guess I'm trying to get grandfathered in before us messy smelly bio computers get locked out.
Or in other words, IBTL.

The main information of the article seems to be that the millionaire has no office, nor a comfortable internet connection and the picture shows two homeless and unshaved persons, living as metropolitan nomads, hoping that no one forces them to buy a coke or a chamomile tea.

It is San Francisco, after all.

Well, you have to admit, there's no more blatant way to say 'venture capital? We don't need no stinkin' venture capital!'

Is that philips dream world? An entire world full of... computers? And he's the only human there? [edit] Or is he even there? An entire grid existaing for the sake of itself only. And I though SL was a guilty watse of power already [/edit] I really can't see the point of even ONE computer AI in world frankly. How completely empty is that?

Actually I know, was being facetious, but still The entire idea of AI just gives me chills, even the microcosms of it we have to deal with now is so demeaning and at best empty... it's really actually kind of depressing. The idea of interacting with.. no one on any level that even approaches meaningfull is as hollow as anything I can imagine. Even if it's a robot "secretary". It's not hard to imagine a lot of really distopian conclusions to that long road

Maybe it's me, but "singularity" always brings up this sort of image in my mind: And then I worry; What place does Individuality have in the Singularity?
