New PC & SL crashes

I have a brand new Dell pc. I downloaded SL and it crashes everytime I bring it up. I am using windows vista. Any ideas why SL is crashing?

People are using Second Life under Vista now.
What kind of video card do you have in that Dell?
What are your system specs? Quantity of Ram, type of video card, type of processor?
Have you updated your drivers? New machines often come with old, outdated drivers.

From: Raine McCellan Nevermind, SL isn't working vista now SL works with Vista, but there are a lot of other factors that may be causing your crashes. Can you give us your pc specifications? CPU size, amount of RAM, graphics card model (probably your problem right there) Theres a sticky here in the forums about running SL with Vista. I would suggest reading through those also. But it does work, so keep trying.  |

4 gigs of ram, 256 MB ATI radeon X1300 Pro video card, Intel Core 2 CPU 6420 @ 2.13GHz.
Maybe there's hope? LOL

Update your drivers .. your machine maybe at least a few months old ( just lying around the warehouse awaiting distribution ) .. even though its brand new to you.

If updating your drivers doesn't work you might want to do a forum search for "x1300", there's a bunch of results.
Also check the Technical Issues forum, maybe post there, if this thread doesn't pan out.

Or if you are using the latest ATI drivers, roll back to 7.4.. Mine was causing a crash after shutting down, but my comp is also an XP. I was forced to roll the driver back, since it was the only thing that had changed in the comp and that solved my problem.

I don't have any idea about how to roll back drivers and such. I can use my old proscessor for now. Will SL eventually be compatible? My heart sank when I couldn't get SL to run. I was all excited when I hooked up my new pc and downloaded SL. I think I should've chose XP when I ordered my Dell THanks everyone for your advice, I appreciate it |
