As I wrote on another topic...I bought a island today. My first island

The delivery will occurs few days later.Maybe 10 business day.

Ok, I'd like to forwarding some stuffs such as terraforming and landscape.

I'm not experienced with island management.

Is there any possibility to : rent a island for 6 hours more or less, perfor terraforming and landscape and then: "Save it" or "Transfer to another island" or "Download a RAW file of my island" ??

LLs rent islands out http://secure-web7.secondlife.com/community/land-rental.php it may not be what u want but it might be worth a try. But an email to concierge@lindenlab.com might answer any questions that you have about it and im sure there will be others here that may have better advice for you but i hope that this helps :)

Only the owner can upload and download RAW files for private SIMS.
IF you can find an island owner willing to let you experiment/learn/play,
then, YES, he can up and download RAW files for you and email them to you.
They are about 800k each. Take a minute or two to upload or download.

You might SEARCH the FORUMS for offline software that will let you design
your islands in advance. If you're on a mac, I'd recommend BACKHOE--its great.

I am probably wrong, but I think that Estate managers can also upload and download...

Mhh, in fact no..
They have access to lots of features, but Estate Managers can't download a raw file and i'm 100% sure they can't upload one (i tried with an ALT).

I was an estate manager for several sims, and no, they can't do anything at all with sim RAW files. Only the sim owner has that right.

Go to the far west on your map, zoom a little, and you will see a number of islands there that still have the default LL terrain, and nothing else on them. I would IM a few of the owners. They would have to come to save their terrain file first, and maybe pick up 50% of the agreed price for renting, before you could play. When you are done, they would need to return, save the terrain file, then reload their old terrain file, get your second 50%, and give you the terrain file (via email) to use when you get your own island delivered.

Am I missing something? Can't you save your new island's RAW file when you get it and then spend 6hrs at no cost practising terraforming on your own land? If you like what you done keep it, if not re-apply your original and start again. Don't see the need why you would want to practise for 6hrs elsewhere.
