As Suezanne has said, this closure is reminiscent of the previous closure of the forums' General Discussion area, announced on September 11, 2006 by Torley:

That closure resulted in a mass exodus to SLU and Second Citizen (that was). The original crew never seemed to quite pull itself together again ... but as Isablan (I think) has mentioned, it was an angry community, not very supportive of each other.

There was a core of content fora experts who remained here after the GD closure, but the more florid social personalities either left or had already been banned. So, it was fairly slow around here when I arrived at the turn of the year.

Over time, our helpful coffee-house like culture evolved. I don't think anyone other than Robin at LL ever understood, or cared, that a new, more helpful and less contentious crowd had come to "live" here.

Anyway, I thought anyone still reading might be interested in the few blog comments that were permitted before that, too, was shut down!

ETA: If you follow the links in that post, you can see the pre-announcements, with their wailing and gnashing of teeth in the comments.

Everything changes, and everything stays the same. Fyi, if anyone cares, I am various avatars inworld, but my virtual world forum identity will remain Nika - on Blue Mars, on SLU, on SCMKII ... wherever.

See everyone in the future!
:)
