Anybody got tips for becoming unruthed? Was a time that wiggling the bandwidth slider and changing active group would sometimes get rid of her, but I've been stuck like this for hours now and it's getting to the point I'm gonna head over to Grasmere and orbit some Linden ass.

Try going into Appereance and exit, that should do it. If that doesn't work, then try applying a different shape to the one you normally wear. Also, in your top menu you may go to Client, Character, Rebake Textures. If that doesn't work, logout and login.

Logged out and in a million times, appearance is always greyed out. At one point, I got my shape back but my inventory and Lindens wouldn't load. So I logged out and in, got those back but lost my shape again. :argh: Never, ever been ruthed like this before. Edit: Things I've tried over the past few hours: emptied cache. forced inventory (when it was lagging) load by typing in the search field. wiggling bandwidth slider (good for becoming unruthed or speeding up loading of a sim). changing active group (good for getting worn prims to load). relogging many, many times. appearance option is never available. Rebaked textures (this had the effect of turning my shirt into a sleeveless top)

If your Appereance is grayed out, you're having serious problems with lag. Try lowering all your graphics setting, reduce your draw distance to 64, etc., and see if that will allow your Appereance to come back.

Oh and I've done that (draw distance) too. Packet loss is low to non-existent. Sims seem to be loading quickly. This indicates I'm not lagged. In the immortal words of Toyah Wilcox: It's a mystery.

De-Ruthed!

Sheesh! Bearing in mind that I've been stuck like this for hours, and tried every trick I've learned over the past 15 months trying to fix it, I'm wondering whether it was caused by some settings conflict between the old and new client. I just deleted the settings folder (@ C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SecondLife), logged in again, and voila, no more ruth. I can't believe it was that easy. Anyway, if the same happens to anybody else, there's a possible solution. Thanks for trying to assist me Calveen. I really appreciate it.

YVW, I couldn't have suggested the solution you've just mentioned, I haven't used the official client in months. I use the Nicholaz client and thankfully, have saved myself from many of the bugs most users experience.

I reckon it has something to do with the previously discussed memory-leak issue affecting shapes and textures. If the texture buffer is set to an insufficient amount of memory, then textures and shapes don't load quickly enough. That's my theory. You mention deleting the cache directory. This is exactly the same as clearing the cache through the preferences menu then relogging. Clothes, shapes and textures are all stored in your cache, as shapes and avatar textures are actually client-side effects - or that's my understanding of it anyway. Make sure all unnecessary applications are switched off to give maximum memory. Then relog. And clear your cache regularly too.

The strange thing is, I emptied my cache (and restarted) over and over again over a period of approx. two hours. Only when I deleted the entire settings folder did my avatar instantly return to normal. I suppose it's possible the client wasn't deleting the old cache at all. From: Ava Glasgow Okay, now I'm in love with you! Ooh you making me blush. I <3 Toyah. She seemed to be on TOTP every single week when I was seven or eight years old.

The easiest way I have found to fix Ruthing is to change to another shape (double click on it in your inventory), wait a few seconds then change back again.
