One day I had a particular situation that made me want my IM box to be really wide and narrow, so I dragged the edges of the box the way I wanted it at the time.
Problem is that now, every new IM pops up as that size. I would think that when you close out the IM box, it should open next time at the size it closed out at, especially if you close all the individual IM boxes first.
I suppose this is residual garbage in the code, left from some crash.
Where do I have to go to reset this?

I'm sure they included some kind of clause to keep the elves from being beaten.

There's a settings.xml file that saves the position and size of all the floater windows. The line you want is: From: someone <FloaterIMRect value="224 420 733 278"/> One gotcha is that 0,0 is the bottom left corner of the screen so keep that in mind if you go and adjust the numbers . Or you could just delete the file altogether, although that will reset all of your SL settings. --- On Windows you can find it at: %appdata%\SecondLife\user_settings\settings.xml(Copy/paste the highlighted bit into notepad, starting with the % - or copy/paste %appdata%\SecondLife\user_settings into Explorer to go to the folder if you want to delete the file) On a Mac: Library/Application Support/Second Life/user_settings

From: Giannia Rossini Kitty, what other settings would this wipe? If you delete the viewer settings (rather than just adjusting the one value) you'd have to reset any changes you made in Preferences (draw distance, whether you see group titles, etc) and you'd get the newbie popups again (Congrats! You just used the map!) and some little things (you'd have to check mature again for search).

Hi Giannia, I went ahead and reported the bug for you in JIRA; I made it a sub-task of someone else's bug regarding IM window size/resize problems. Here's the link: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1122To tell LL that you want them to fix this, you need to login to JIRA with your SL username and password, go to that link, and click on "vote for it" on the left hand side of the screen, all the way near the bottom.

Not true. JIRA is our absolute best tool for bug reporting, sharing reproductions and watching progress happen. Use it - it *does* work.

All you have to do is read the lists of fixed or addressed issues every time they release an update; nearly every issue that they've worked on is listed in JIRA. And every week LL hosts a JIRA bug tracker meeting (which I unfortunately can't attend coz I work then). They DO track them.

Thanks Oryx. And thanks also to Kitty. I tried her little patch, but won't know till I get outside work firewall if it worked.

Well good news, Nicholaz Beresford has attached a patch to this bug report in JIRA. Hopefully it'll make it into the next version.
