So now that basic accounts don't get a stipend i can't make any custom creations now that my L$250 is long gone. And i can no longer look forward to my 5 imports a week. Paying a monthly fee isn't a option for me. And i find owning land undesirable. I need some suggestions for making L$ in game without being able to import anything... Not being able to import sucks the fun out of the game for me because adding custom textures, sounds, animations is what got my attention in the first place. I can understand why they gimped the weekly L$ for basic accounts. But is a few imports a week for basic accounts too much to ask?

Um, become an escort, or host. You can script and build, still. There are tons of freebie textures (of decent quality) that you can use, and if you get a retainer for custom work, you can upload textures using that money.

You can buy L$ without paying a monthly fee. At the moment, for US$1.23, you can buy L$250.00 and that's just looking at the LindeX trading (there are other options). That gives you your "5 imports a week" for 5 weeks, or roughly 25 cents a week. I don't want to sound like a jerk, but if it's not worth spending 25 cents per week, just how much fun were you having?

The L$250 that the original poster is referring to is a one-time gift from LL for providing payment info. A sign-up bonus for being verified, and not a stipend.
To the original poster: If you got that L$250, then you provided payment information. If the information was valid, you should have no problem purchasing as many L$ as you wish, and only when you want/need to do so. There is no need to incurr a monthly membership fee for that. I would advise that you skip the purchase of one large pizza or one movie and snacks in your RL entertainment expenses, and spend ten bucks buying L$. That will get you roughly L$2,750 to 'live off of' until you can start making things that people will actually pay you L$ for in-game.
It takes most people a few months before their skills in making clothes, cars, scripts, houses or whatever it is that they like to create are good enough to bring in a reasonable L$ income. When first starting to sell stuff, sell through the SL Exchange and SL Boutique websires. Both are free services that take a small cut from your actual sales (roughly 10%, and cost you absolutely nothing up front.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Actually, when I signed up an alt, it was 1kL for getting verified, and after reading another post, he had an original account that he lost and didn't want to reset the pw to, either by not taking the time to call or just didn't care and was expecting this new account to give him a stipend. ETA: Also, my guess is, since the stipends were cut to only 50L several months ago, the OP is quite behind on SL stuff.

Actually, stipends were cut twice, first to 400L$ and then 300L$, it seems you don't read the Official Linden Blog!! <g> SL Economy - Stipend change for new accounts Monday, October 16th, 2006 at 10:19 pm by Robin Linden Max

Well, money trees, camping chairs and dance pads come to mind. Take your earnings there and see if you can gamble them up to a reasonable stash (or lose it all) or pump it into `sploders, etc. Get an SL job? There's an employment forum here. Or do it the old-fashioned way... Buy L$. Max

Max That's for premium. We were speaking of basic. Which is why I said that they'd been cut originally a LONG time ago from 250L Seems you don't read posts!

I've often thought it would be a good idea to make "uploads" a commodity seperate from L$. You could buy uploads at L$10 each, but not sell them. That way, all new users could get a couple of uploads to start with without causing problems to the L$ economy.

Hmmm, I believe this says stipends, which is what I was referring to, not one-time sign up bonuses, which is what you are calling here "stipend" American Heritage Dictionary sti·pend (stpnd, -pnd) n. A fixed and regular payment, such as a salary for services rendered or an allowance. Not a one-time payment for signing up. Apologies if English is not your first language <g>. Max

My stipend is only $50 a week.
I suppliment it Occasionally by Building for people, and Other means. Today, i'm fairly well to do (For me) having about L$5K, but usually, my Money hovers between L$200, and L$400. and chere, I get along Fine. I can go weeks without spending a Single Linden, it just doesn't seem necesary some times.
I have the Avi of my choice, and many little gadgets to keep me amused. I have a small, but comfortable home. Most of all, I have a Caring SL Family. Money just isn't a Driving Force in my Second Life. I have to worry about Money too much in Life #1, why would i Import those problems to SL when my whole reson for being there in the first place is to get a Rest from the Rat Race?
Relax, you will Live Longer.

Relax, you will Live Longer. I agree here. Although I don't have to worry really about money in my #1 Life (I have a good job there and so has my partner). I truly admire the people who work hard in SL and create the most beautiful and useful things... or even has jobs there. But this not for me. I work very hard for my RL job. I am in SL to relax and share time with friendly and nice people here. I can use my CC every now and then to fill my SL purse a bit. But that is just me. Maybe one time I will dare and try to make some clothes myself. But that will be for my own fun and not to sell them Morwen

Max No, I was referring to stipends. The OP stated basic accounts, you gave info on premium accounts and I gave info on BASIC accounts, which do only get 50L a week. Basic only gets 50L now. I know what I was referring to, so please, before you throw a definition at me, read the original poster and the responses. If you are going to suggest people need to keep up to date with the blog, then I suggest you do the same. The sign up bonus doen't occur with regular sign ups, (At least it didn't when I created my alt about 5 weeks ago) unless you went verified. BTW, English is my first and only language and I know it impeccably. I also know how to read.
