I purchased a building I can't edit.

I bought a piece of land with a building I really want to keep. I cannot edit the building as I apparently don't have permission. The former owner has departed SL for good and won't/can't respond to my questions.

Is there any way around the permission?

As much as I like the building, which appears to be a unique build, if I can;t edit it its useless to me. I'm relatively knew so if this question is obvious I apologize.

is it in the old owners name or your name?
is it mod or no mod?

if its in the old owners name there is nothing you can do unless you have his mod rights
if it is no mod there is nothing you can do

Permissions are set up by the original builder...if they marked it no modify prior to sale, then you can't edit it in anything other than position. If it's not letting you move it, then you may not actually own it; ie, they left it on the land for you, but they're still listed as the owner in the Edit window.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

Before giving up: if the Creator is a different person from the previous Owner, it's just possible that the Creator is still in-world and still has a copy s/he might be happy to give you--especially if it's a unique build that s/he'd like to keep in-world as a matter of pride-in-craft.

Failing that, another builder (you?) could work from it to generate a full-perm near-copy manually. (I'm sure some copy-bot could make a perfect copy, but I don't want to suggest such a thing.)

ack @ copy....

Most builders are happy to have their builds on display. Best bet would be to contact them and/or simply buy another

:o I should clarify: I wouldn't mean to suggest copying (neither by copybot nor manually) except in the case where the Creator could not be located (e.g., terminated account), in which case the choice is to delete the content or try to save it by making a copy that can be used by the new landowner. The "failing that" in my post was ambiguous, but was intended to refer to the Creator still being in-world. (And, admittedly, I was just assuming from the description that it's a custom build, not a pre-fab, least of all one still on the market.)

I suppose it may still be technically wrong, but speaking as a some-time builder: if anybody admires anything I leave behind when I'm gone from SL, I'd *far* rather that whomever comes to own it be able to use a copy of it than to have to delete it because they couldn't modify it to meet their needs. But maybe that's just me.

I think there's a couple of my builds floating around from owner to owner, and what we did was (since I make my custom stuff Mod/Copy but no-transfer) was to simply give copies of it to the new owner. She was able to delete parts she wanted to get rid of and replace them. It's tricky if it's a huge build. I would contact the builder if I was you and see if theres anything he or she can do to help.

Is it a scripting problem why you need to edit? Something that would respond only to the owner? Reset all the scripts in selection, and it should work.

Oh, wouldn't that be nice! Unfortunately, it's *prim* permissions that determine whether you can reset the contained *scripts*... so if the build is no-mod, can't reset scripts.

Scripts have their own permissions. And no-mod scripts can be reset, either by opening and pressing the reset button, or using the tools menu. It is at the very least worth trying.

Yes, scripts have their own permissions, but unfortunately in this case (with a no-mod build), those permissions have nothing to do with being able to reset the scripts. See a recent thread () in the Scripting Tips forum for details.

Isn't so that if his name does not appear as owner in the general tab and if he right clicks it and opens up the objects tab, and all the XYZ are blacked out, he basically cannot do anything other than return to owner in the about land.
