If at all possible in a given situation.
Loosing work due to such occurences is really really frustrating.

Happened to me now
and happened to me when the last rolling restart begun.

There are always warnings with the rolling restarts.

I'll say this before someone else does ...

If they log you out with no warning ... it is something CRITICAL.

Stop whining before you start, whiners!!!!

Obviously a major issue or you would have been given warning.

I've never seen a rolling restart without a warning.

Regarding this shut down. Someone stated they were in the middle of the Bug Triage meeting when the system suddenly shut down. That implies to me that it was obviously something serious. I doubt there was time to provide the courtesy of the announcement.

I was in that meeting. Suddenly I get a message that an administrator has logged me out of the game and I'm like "Oh, no! They found me out. Wait, I haven't done anything..."

Um

I've had to do exactly this on our website.

If it is that serious then it is that serious. There is no time to mess around being nicey nicey in an emergency.

I am sure they will apologise.

Which would have done what, exactly? Said the exact same thing twice?

would have taken 10 seconds to give a grid wide msg of "Emergency fix, read the blog" *shutdown*

Please read my post and take the given conditional into regard:

"If at all possible in a given situation."

Beside that, I am pretty sure that I did not receive a forward warning,
for the rolling restart to the "first look voice update issue",
else I would not have posted this polite request,
to think of the small but convenient details even in a crisis.

All in all I am also sure that the support & operations team at LL,
is currently working its ass of to solve the issues at hand.

I was also logged out by administrator today, but I assumed it was because I had the client logged in for 3 days.

As the website also went wobbly I'd say it was more than just grid issues.

Sorry hon. I've been on the receiving end of the sort of panic that happens when something goes wrong.

Trust me ... their hearts will be in their boots. So what?

I should (as I have whinged elsewhere) be sharing my partner's birthday with him ... meh

Shit happens.

Yep

This is something they are gonna be running round like crazy about and no mistake.

Not really the same thing. You'll also get "Logged off by an administrator" when a Linden kicks you off, or when your account is suspended and you're logged on.

It doesn't need to be a human-typed message, just something to differentiate between purposeful targetted forced log-off, and a grid-wide shutdown would be useful.

This is not aimed at the OP whom said "if at all possible" but at those thinking that 10 seconds to type a post don't matter.

How many MIPS (Million of Instructions Per Second) do you think the grid goes through? How many items/inventories/accounts/L$-Balances could be corrupted/lost in 10 seconds?

And really....if anyone didn't see soemthing like this as a possibility due to the weekend fiasco, your head is further up your...er....in the sand than LL's.

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

This entire thread is just amazing to me. Why would it matter if I get a 10 second message telling me I'm going to crash rather than just crash? Either way I'm crashed. It's just silly.
