Noob: No Copy and Outfits

Hi,

New to SL. I have been arranging the clothes I am wasting all this money on, and mixing and matching outfits. When I first joined I had a lot of no-perm freebie stuff. Now that I am getting better things, much of it is no copy.

The problem is when I make an outfit it drags things out of their folders. I can only have one outfit, say, with a particular accessory. I want to wear some of the jewelery I have with several outfits, but in order to do so I have to go fishing for it.

Is there any way to keep everything arranged neatly and just "link" the items without moving them around in folders for outfits? Sorry if there is an obvious answer, but I have looked and can't come up with anything. I refuse to buy multiple copies of the same item to have insta-clicky outfits at the ready.

Nope, no "alias" type links in the inventory folders. If it's no copy, you are stuck with it just in a single folder.

Bleh, major oversight on SL's part, imho. Outfits could have been saved as lists of items instead of just moving the items around to new folders, in my opinion. That way you could leave everything where it is and still have outfits.

It will definately effect how I pick out clothes. I'll be much less apt to buy no copy stuff.

One thing you can do is arrange your clothes into folders so you can find everything quickly. I have all my clothes in folders called tops, bottoms, dresses, shoes, underwear, attachments, etc. Inside each of those folders I have folders arranged by store name so I'll have folders like canimal, artilleri, mischief, etc. That way I can easily jump to a dress and put it on, then jump to shoes and put it on, etc. It takes a little longer to change that way but you do get to keep all your similar things together and it helps when you just want to mix and match from different sets.

I do keep one or two complete sets for those times when you need to change very fast. Usually have to use them when there is some kind of teleportation bug.

Now Bree, Vye is new. Don't go scaring her by telling her where your hair and shoes go when you teleport! ;)

Something I've "thought" about doing, but haven't actually tried yet was to write up note cards for those outfits that I've mixed and matched, then couldn't remember what the hell I wore with something last time that looked so cool together.

If you listed the items by the names as you have them in your inventory, then you could bring up the items by filtering with key words. Keep a separate folder just for your clothing notecards so they don't get mixed in with all the other crap that you get on a daily basis.

Besides, if you like nice clothes, its not really easy to find much of anything thats copiable.

This is a major frustration for those of us that shop a ton and love mixing and matching outfits!! I LOVE the way it is done in There.com where you can make an outfit but it doesnt move it in your inventory. Loved loved loved it...missing that feature! Wait, no one suggest this until all other bugs are fixed *runs screaming from the new idea for LL*

I don't know about teleporting, but earlier today my PC slowed way down. It was so slow I could barely exit. When I restarted, the loading screenshot showed me standing there, bald, with my new prim hair hanging out of my butt. Needless to say I'm hoping no one was looking...

LOL, thanks all.

WOW, good idea. About copyable clothes, I have had good luck I guess. Besides some jewelery and one set of lingerie, everything I have bought has been copyable. Shoes and all.

I keep two folders that I named **Quick Change** & *Always Worn* for things I might want quick access to. The asterisks keep them at the top of your list. "Quick Change" is as it implies, I keep it simple with an outfit thats a top and bottom so it really is quick change. "Always Worn" includes my original freebie sexy walk override that I still prefer over all others, my usual shape, my flip title, a flight feather, and my personal lighting attachment.

That is a pain. That's why I don't bother with making outfits. Obviously the lead programmers of SL were men.

After a lot of pain and agony I no longer make outfit folders. The best way is to just make folders such as dressers, tops, shoes, underwear etc etc and trust your memory as to where the good stuff is and select your clothing items one by one.

Just another reason not to buy no copy/no mod clothing.

If you tend to wear certain colors, you can sort by those too. Ooo, and take a look at this:

You're probably not to that point yet, but it's good to have a plan in mind. ;)

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I agree with what everyone else say's, make yourself some folders for quick changes. I have a ready made outfit for most occassions, very handy when you need to do a superman fast clothes change lol

Been 'sperimentin a bit. I'm finding the right-click option "add to outfit" thingy pretty helpful in this now. Not as good as having linked lists, but at least I don't have to fish for my accessories.

Two issues in JIRA refer to inventory stuff, and this issue in particular. One issue is a meta-issue which collects all the inventory issues together. That is here:

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-381

The other one addresses the outfits/copy issue and is here:

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-581

Pop over to JIRA to vote for them. Don't forget to login to JIRA first!
