I think I noticed a few days ago when SL was loadin up for me that it said "Initializing Quicktime". Now...I've been using Quicktime (when I HAVE to) for over 10 years. It's SLOW...ya know...like Adobe Illustrator or whatever.

I don't know how those 2 companies made thier..."monopolies" or whatever but they never found a way to speed up the software, maybe even never tried.

I guess SL would PRE-load Quicktime so you can hit "Music" and "Video" right away in-game. I don't listen to music or watch video, except every few weeks in SL. I think a log of lag would be cut down if LL could find a faster solution. Is there any way to use SL without Quicktime?

Turning off "Use Streaming Video When Available" in the Preferences tab will mean that Quicktime is never used, although for some reason it will still be initialised.

Alternatively, you can just uninstall Quicktime. SL will still work. This may be a little bit drastic, of course ;)

if you have windows you can right click the icon next to your clock and choose exit
you can disable it in SL's options
or just uninstall it all together

music doesnt use quicktime ... LL installed the music system back when they cared so its integrated into the client (altho you can disable it) and its not at all slow

I don't have it installed yet on my new computer. That's one handy way to stop it :)

You can disable QT from loading when windows starts, and disable it in the client preferences. It only loads a api handler into memory and takes up very little space, has virtually no overheads to the client software in this state.

One of the biggest problems with QT is its assumption that you want it to hijack every known format on your PC, you can limit this in the QT settings to just mov files... I never download the version with iTunes, or the automatic 'updater' either.
