Hi!

I have done some searching, but all I can seem to come up with is "we need the ability to do xxx" or "Why can't we do YYY?" when I try to find info on the group tool.

I am starting to acquire a bit more land, and am entertaining the idea of rentals or other things of that nature. So I created a Group last night ... and was then shocked at all the options available.

Is there a single source of information that will tell me what everything does? If someone could point me to a link or url, I'd be most grateful!!

Thank you!

The new options on the groups window do look a little confusing at first, but they're pretty simple. For the most part, it has to do with assigning powers to individuals and/or groupings of individuals within the group at large.

It used to be that we only had two levels, officer and member. Officers had near godhood with the power to eject members, invite people into the group, promote members to officer status, release land, etc, all while being immune to ejection themselves, and members had pretty much no powers at all. The system was extremely problematic, and obviously unbalanced.

With the new system, you as the founder have complete control over how you want it to be structured, and whom you want to be able to do what. You'll find that there's a genral overview of the system's features in the release notes from 1.12.0, which was the version which introduced the change. I'll quote it here, and clean up the formatting a bit to make it easier to read:

From: 1.12.0 Release Notes

Group Enhancements
  1. Group limit per user increased from 15 to 25
  1. Group member minimum reduced from 3 to 2
  1. The group information user interface has been redesigned

Group Notices
  1. Group notices can be created in the 'Group Information > Notices' tab
  1. Group notices can include an attachment
  1. Group notices are sent to all group members
  1. Members may opt to not receive these notices in the 'Group Information > General' tab
  1. Members can browse the last 30 days of notice history
  1. Members with IM to Email set will receive these notices offline

Group Roles
  1. Groups can be configured using the 'Group Information > Members & Roles' tab
  1. A group is now composed of up to 10 user-configured Roles
1. The "Everyone" and "Owner" roles count for these purposes
  2.
1. Group powers to return objects from parcels are divided based on Owned by group, Set to group, and Not group related
  1. Residents may hold more than one Role in a group
  1. Each role can be configured to allow certain group Actions
  1. Each role gets its own title
  1. Members of a group are assigned to Roles to define the Actions they can perform in that group
  1. Group members are always a part of that group's 'Everyone' role
  1. Example:
1. Current groups have two Roles: 'Everyone' and 'Officer
  2.

1. All group members can do Actions allowed by the 'Everyone' role, such as voting on proposals
  2.

1. Only group members assigned to the 'Officer' role can do Actions such as invite new members
  2.

1. Groups now have a special role: 'Owner'
  2.
1. 'Owners' have full control over the group, but cannot remove other 'Owners'
  1. Promoting group members to Owner warns user that this change is irreversible
  1. The last owner of a group cannot leave without selecting a successor
  1. Current groups will have members selected to be 'Owners' based on the first to match these rules:
    1. A founder in the group
    2. Officers with 512 or more sq. m. land contributed
    3. All officers
    4. Nobody (no 'Owner' role is created)

  1. Owner and Everyone roles cannot be renamed

(formatting added)

Granted, the above is not exactly a how-to guide, but it does tell you the basics of what you need to know. Take a look at the group window interface, match up the various features with each bullet point, and you should be able to make sense of what you're looking at.

Hope that helps.
