I found a list of teachers and mentors for scripting in the Wiki, and I don't mind paying for a one-to-one lesson. Each teacher has their location in their entry and I can teleport there but when I do all I see is a well-created attractive location with no apparent instructions about how to ask for a lesson?
What do I do from here?

Perhaps you could provide the url of the list you are referring to.
To contact the people in the LSL scripting portal wiki.secondlife.com, use the inworld search button , then the people tab, use the IM button on their profile to send the an inworld IM.
Alternately you could try using the private messaging feature, in the Quick Links dropdown list of these forums, to send them a forum PM.
If you are talking about the teachers and mentors in the wiki.secondlife.com list, I believe can also click on their name, which is a link to their user page, and click on the discussion tab, and edit the discussion on their user page as a means to contact them.

You might also consider browsing in "EVENTS" with an "Education" filter. This will show you the time and location of classes in SL.
