The sim I recently purchased has a regular visitor count of 20-40 people at one time. The question I have is what to do about lag?
The script usage time in MS (under region/estate) is always around 1.8-2.0 and during heavy times can go as high as 3.4.
The sim frametime is usually hovering around 18-22, and the framerate is always 45.
Yet for some reason the sim seems laggy most of the time. Is this a hardware issue with the simulator? Or does it have more to do with the grid?

When I purchase land, I always check for and remove any 'junk' left on the land, before building anything. One of the worst offenders is obejects that have been dropped in the past, that contain scripts and they fall into the ground. Check Objects in About Land, also check using View, Beacons, Active Scripts, and the Particles. These beacons will give you an idea where things are, that you may not see. Also check as far up as you can go, to see if anything has been left lying around. Use Ctrl+Shift+1 to see how many active scripts there are on the land. Ctrl+Shift+ (2, 3 and 4) will bring up graphs and useful information about warnings issued for textures not hosted, sim throttling, huge textures still downloading etc. For a really detailed reporting function, use Ctrl+Shift+9 it lists almost every part of whats going on around the sim, parcel, avatars and your client and has nested elements for even greater detail, holding your mouse over any item updates the realtime graph function. Turn off these windows/huds using the same key combinations.
