Thank You. Assuming you mean 2GB of RAM and a 7600GS card - go with it. I've got the same card with 1GB of RAM on a Athlon64 3500+ system. SL runs smoothly. HTH, Face

Get a better graphics card, preferrably a 7900 or 7950 grade Geforce. The 7600's are for Office use, and often use shared memory via AGP, which is very slow.
Especially for an app like SL that works a lot with large textures, this can be deadly (potential advantages of shared memory architecture exist, too, but I wouldn't gamble on them).
What you need is a card that can process huge amounts of geometry and can constantly swap textures in and out.
The more texture memory you have, the better - 512 MB memory on the card is the way to go.

The 7600GS is a good card for a budget gaming machine. They come with 256 or 512 MB memory on the card and don't use shared memory. BTW: As the OP wanted to get a new PC, I assumed it would come with a PCIe gfx connector anyway. Cheerio, Face

How about the Intel dual-core 2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache, 2.4 GHz, 1066 FSB?
You know, come to think of it - I will just list my whole specs for the computer I'm considering buying, but I'm going to put it in the TECHNICAL forum, so please check there and let me know if you think the computer I have in mind will be good for SL, or if you think it should be tweaked in any way.

While I was wrong about the 7600s (confused them with the 7300ers), it's still not an adequate graphics card!
It's way outdated, and also no longer cost efficient. You get several times the performance at a reasonable price with the bigger cards, which is well worth it.

The 7600GS is a fine card at its price level (around $100 with careful shopping). Sure, the 7950GT is better, but at over $200, it should be. You have to decide how much money you want to invest in an SL system, and choose appropriately within your budget. The 7600GS is also THE choice, in my opinion, for upgrading an older AGP system; a big improvement to most systems, at a price that isn't excessive for an upgrade of old technology.
I've heard that Radeon X1900 cards are now available for under $150. At that price, they might be worth a look.
