Hi,
I'm awfully new to SL, so I'm not sure how everything works yet. I got a freebie car from the Gnubie store. It works great on my own tiny plot of land, but the one time I tried to whip it out (the car) on a road (in another zone) I was told that the zone didn't allow me to do that.
Are the roads just for show?
Thanks for any help!

Nope. They`re to be used. Res the car off the road --yes, I`m afraid that this means you have to rez it on someone`s private property-- and drive it onto the road. Be sure to Take or Delete the car when you are done. Which one you do depends upon the car`s permissions: You Take if it is NoCopy and Delete if it is Copy.

"Excuse me while I pull this car out of my pocket and plop it down on your front yard because the road won't let me."
Hahahahahahaha.
Ok, thanks for the answer!!

there is a parking lot just out front and to the left of the Waterhead welcome center. It connects to the road network and allows you to rez your vehicle.
Word of warning, as you approach sim borders (watch your mini map), slow down. Those freebie vehicles do not handle sim crossings as well every time, and at a sim border the road can become unstable and eat your vehicle. Slowing gives it a chance to fully rez and is less of a chance of sinking through the road. It also makes your border crossing easier.
Happy motoring
