People receiving IM's from me, but not sent by me?

Hi all,

Hope someone can help. Logged into my email today, and found a busy mode message from a SL user I don't even know. At the time I received the reply, I was sleeping. So I can only assume that they recieved an IM from my AV ID, but because they had their busy mode set, I got a reply.

My question is, is it possible for somebody to send an IM to another user, which appears to of been sent from me? If so, is it a script, or something as simple as spoofing my email address to send it into SL from offline?

Any help appreciated.

It's more likely to have been an object you own "speaking" to the AV by IMing him/her or giving them a notecard etc.

If the other AV is set to busy mode, you get these errors.

Do you have any vendors or other scripted items, landmark givers or the like? Every prim object that tries to send a message to someone or give inventory to someone who is in busy mode can trigger such a message.

did u happen to send a group notice or proposal out?

i experience that when i send out group notices and some av will throw back some customised busy messages. not sure if thats a feature or bug though.

Thanks for the repiles so far. I do have several objects which give items at a mall, however I also have a visitor tracker, and as far as I can see, this person has not visited the mall. All objects are within the range of the visitor tracker.

LOL.. I got a coule of IM's when I logged in yesterday after the update, from people that aren't happy about houses I sold them.... I don't make houses, or any form of building, yet they said the houses show me as the creator.. how screwed is that?

A group I'm in was last night getting messages that were obviously not intended to be sent there.

I'm not happy with the house you built either, now pay me back!!

Understood that these people aren't showing up on your visitor tracker.

I get these sort of messages myself from time to time - in every case, its because the person clicked on an object I own that communicates with them via llInstantMessage, and they have their 'Busy' tag on.

If you'd like to see this fixed, throw a vote at JIRA issue VWR-1695.

It's possible they are doing some out-of-body exploring... turning off camera constraints and just moving the camera around. I do that frequently while shopping, and I can click on something while my av is on the other side of the sim. Looking rather forlorn, I'm sure.

I have a question that I'll just tag into this thread rather than clutter the forum with a new thread....I have a pretty mellow security system in my home, It doesn't boot people off the land or anything, just sends me an IM if someone enters my home and also will IM me if there is anything typed into the chat inside my home, or an object says something inside the home. Recently I keep getting IM's from the system saying that my bed has said "too many listens, script run error". However, I'm not home, or even online when this happens...and my security system shows no one inside the home either. I thought maybe someone was using camera controls to look inside and touch the bed...but the bed never says anything about a script error when I am around it. I guess my question is why would this happen? It seems to be doing it so often that it's capping my IM's while I am offline and getting rather annoying.

That message is coming from a script inside your bed, which appears to have a serious problem in its code.

(Technical details: The person that scripted it has too many llListen handles open.)

If your bed is something you purchased, I'd get in touch with the person you purchased it from and tell them the script in the bed appears to have a problem. Hopefully they can either fix it for you or offer a refund.

I get these incoming and outgoing I tend to ignore them all especially the ones going ???? hehe something is getting lost in space somewhere and from what I can see it has something to do with groups and mixing with private IM's somehow. Anyhow if I have no idea who the person is and its obviously a piece of a conversation or its looking like a piece of my conversation ended up somewhere because of all the ???'s i just ignore them and leave it at that otherwise your busy trying to explain something that doesn't make sense and its kind of an exercise in futility
