I am so glad that no American company has to report anything to the US authorities. LL say in their TOS that they will give any information asked for, but I don't think they will really, do you? So pleased too about the lack of censorship in the US.

Does that mean we should be distributing the Babbler translator like mad so we can talk with the onslaught of new Chinese residents?

Some of You Seem to be Confused

Some of you seem to think this means that Chinese residents will be joining Second Life. This is wrong. HiPiHi is a totally new virtual world which is a lot like SL, but is not owned by LL and is being developed in China. If anything, it will be competition for SL.

Well I just spent an hour following links and reading blogs on the HiPiHi site. Looks very interesting and I've saved the link to check back periodically. I can not read or understand Chineese so it will be interesting to say the least when it's released publically next fall...........however since the site is in English I figure there will some accommadations for English language people like me.

It appears that the developers have visited Second Life and probably done some extensive investigations of the numerous problems that Linden Labs has failed to address.......so maybe they will avoid such non sense. That's my hope anyway. :)

I'm joining when it opens to the public.

Nah, it'll never catch on. It doesn't have any of those lovely rotating advertising thingies.

No, they did it because they wanted to, they are US companies and do not need to do anything China says.

Yes, they did it because they wanted to be in the China market, and evidently decided this was the lesser evil.

Hope they're right.
