Sorry for the second topic in a few minutes, however theres something I've wondered about that doesn't seem to be answered anywhere in the knowledge base.

Im used to having some sort of in game 'mailing' system where you can send messages to offline users, and they pick up the messages next time they are on.

The only system I can seem to find in SL is the IM system which if you send to an offline player, it sends a copy to their (real world) email system.

When the person comes back online, do they recieve the message in any way, or does it rely on them checking their subscribed email account to see the message ?

Ms. Hazlehurst, the message is sent via email and when the resident gets back into sl they coud see it in their IM window, it'll be saved along with time stamp. So accessibility assured with either email or when you get back into sl.

Hopes this helps Miss :)

I have Second Life set up to not email me copies of offline IMs. When I log into SL, however, I get the offline messages there - in SL.

Also, note that it's possible to give someone items even when they're offline. I didn't realize this for a while.

There's a 'cap' to the number of offline IM's stored for retrieval when logging back on (not sure what the cap is).

If you are away for an extended period, or expect a lot of IM's while you're offline, it's best to have SL send offline IM's to your e-mail.

Sabrina,

Expanding on what Angela Ge said,

When you send that IM to an offline person and they get it as an email, the person outside of SL can reply to these IM's via email. You will recieve them in world as an IM. There is a limit of 72 hours i believe, after which the IM cannot be "replied to". But during that 72 hours, the offline person can continue to reply to the same IM over and over.

If you are offline and your IM's get capped, you will still continue to get the emails. This is very handy if you recieve lots of IM's.
