King's New Clothes

For whatever reason, sometimes my av appears naked, or missing some items of clothing but not others, to everyone else but looks fine to me. Someone came up and offered me clothes in a club to be helpful, but I didn't even realize I was having a problem. Another person said I should do a "rebake" using the Client menu at the top of my screen. But I don't have a Client menu and couldn't find rebake anywhere else.

Anyone have any suggestions as to (1) being able to tell that it is occurring; (2) fixing the problem when it does occur; and (3) doing something so that it doesn't happen at all. Thanks for your help.

Enable the Client menu (if you're on a PC) with ctrl+alt+shift+D (or ctrl+alt+D or ctrl+shift+D - can't remember exactly). On a Mac, I think it's ctrl+cmd+D.

That won't make any difference to your problem, though, since by definition it's a client-command, so if it looks fine to you, you don't need it, if I understand correctly.

I've been seeing naked avatars a lot lately, when the sim I'm in is severly lagged. Usually waiting for a few minutes allows the asset server to finally get around to sending to your viewer the textures needed to clothe the naked avatar. I've yet to see an instance where the avatar was stuck naked -- even on the beta grid in Ahern earlier today when all us SL addicts were pouring in with the main grid down for the update. Some did take a while to finally have their clothes rez, but they all did eventually. I actually saw some avatars stay gray longer than I saw any naked ones.

So, I think this is more of a load issue than anything else.

That will give you the client menu.

Go into appearance,

Then in client menu, character, rebake textures, (near the bottom of the list) that takes care of most, tho not all issues involving clothing.

There was a time last year when rebaking was a common thing due to a missing image bug that suddenly popped up. Also, you had to depend on someone else to tell you when you needed it cuz you looked fine to yourself.

I have been battling this issue since Christmas on and off! It has got worse and worse to the point that my AV is naked all the time, regardless of rebakes, relogs, cache clears and going in and out of "Appearance" over and over again.

I thought it might be realted to my wireless connection so actually paid to change back to a wired link, but the problem has not been resolved. It happens on every Sim I visit, at all times of the day and regardless of Packet Loss (even when packet loss is at 0.0%).

I emailed the Lindens for help but am still waiting.

If anyone can offer advice I will be eternally grateful. It's got to the point where SL is hardly useable as I can't go out without being hassled, and certainly can't go into any PG areas.
