Lag begins at 30, death at 40

Hi,

We have a number of sims in our Estate, all on Class 5 machines, all 100% residential, and zero commercial on them. Up to now we have never experienced lag on these private island sims, and things have to get really bad on the mainland before we experience any problems, which are usually failed teleports, inventory problems etc, but regular movement - no problem.

Last weekend we had the opportunity to gauge lag as we had a big wedding booked on Hoini.

As we have only 12 homes in each of our sims we normally set the Agent number to 25, but we never usually get anywhere near this number under normal circumstances.

For the wedding I raised the number to 30. It became apparent that 30 was not enough when this number was reached almost 30 mins before the ceremony, so I raised it to 40. Immediately after, when the number of agents (avatars) reached 31-33, I noticed lag starting, but not a lot, just took a couple of presses of the forward arrow to get going, and I could stop when wanted.

As we approached 40 Agents in the sim, the lag got VERY noticeable, and started to become a problem. Several pushes of the forward arrow were required to get going, the brakes seemed to be non-functional, and all the latecomers had Missing across their bodies (new fashion?).

The guests still kept coming, and I had to raise the limit again to 45. The maximum number we reached was 44, and things were almost entirely static, good thing these ceremonies are pre-scripted!

I managed to teleport up to 700m where we have the Scheherazade Gardens, and things were quite normal up there (I have never understood why this is so).

Does anyone know what happens at 50? Do we WANT to know??

Yes

I was at "Last Call" yesterday eve for a hunt for some prize tickets to win free clothing from them for a year. I tp'd in at 41 people. It was bad. When it hit 50, I could barely move and was forced to disable camera constraints to continue my search for the elusive hidden tickets. At 53, even camera movement was starting to lag.

I gave up and tp'd out without finding any, at 53... I could no longer search effectively, i couldn't move more than a step or 2 every few minutes, and camera reaction was sluggish at best.

I'll add a provision on that, my own system resources (or lack thereof) might have been part of the lag i found.

For future references, it's always a good idea to ask guests to be sparing in the number of prim attachments they are wearing and to remove ALL scripted items. Including AO's. This can be included in the inventations.

While no one likes to walk like a LL n00b, reduction of scripts eases the sim load. Particles are antoher factor. Esspecially from the "blingtards" that need to glitter all over.

Most guests that would be comming to a wedding, would more than likely be happy to comply and help out. They're there out fo friendship after all, so should be happy to make a few small sacrafices and not wear 100 blinking diamonds on the bride's day of joy ^.^

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

You got away from the source of your sims lag. AV's in your draw distance.

Much of the lag we're experiencing is our own fault. Everyone is clamoring for the good old day. . .Before we had prim hair composed of dozens of tortured tori; flexi prim gowns. bling. . .scripted attachments that scan the whole sim over and over again while constantly listening for commands from their owners, and lets not forget all the AO's.

Hey, I don't want to lose that stuff either. but it costs us big in server time.

There's, uh, probably a lot of things you didn't know about lindens. Another, another interesting, uh, lindenism, uh, there are only three jobs available to a linden. The first is making shoes at night while, you know, while the old cobbler sleeps. You can bake cookies in a tree. But the third job, some call it, uh, "the show" or "the big dance," it's the profession that every linden aspires to.

The Isle of Wyrms has a Dragon Egg Release every 3 months (plus some other big releases in-between), and we have had well over 100 people in one sim at a time. The lag is terrible, and we have had to resort to extreme measures to compensate, including revamping our release system.

We turn off scripts and building, we ask everyone to remove all heavy-prim avs, flexis, particle poofers, etc. Even still, the sim strains and crashes often under those circumstances.

Still, it is possible to get the max number of avatars into a sim (100ish) and survive. :)
