Logging Concern

I have a question about logging by a third party, a concern. I know its possible to log conversations in any public area as long as you use a script. However, what kind of default logging options to landowners have to log things without using a script/cheat?

I have heard a rumor that a landowner can not only log public conversations on their land, but also private IMs. Is this true? Are there other ways that nasty people can attempt to log private IMs or listen in to people's conversations?

What logging dangers may we have to worry about for privacy in Second Life worlds of our text conversations by other uninvited individuals?

Thank you

Landowners have no special abilities to listen in on conversation or IMs on their land.

Land owners as mentioned have ZERO additional facilities to evesdrop than anyone else does. Or at least anyone else allowed to create an object on said land.

However there are some actual hidden chat logging potentials:

One thing you might have to be careful off is evesdropping objects that record what is being said (Though always only in public chat. NEVER in IM). There is no way to tell if one of these things exists really. So just stick to IM for anything you don't want publicly heard (But be aware that the person you are IMing may be loging and it may come out on yhis blog anyway).

Also be aware that the last time I checked, ALL chat and IMs and everything else to and from LL were send unencrypted across networks and if you are running a laptop using WEP or some other typical, easily breakable wireless protocol or on a wired network like at a hotel or buiseness, your chat packets can potentialy be sniffed rather easily.

Chat can be logged by a scripted object.
IMs can not be looged by a scripted item or by any other means.
Land owners, even island owners can not log your IMs

Packet sniffing across a network, thats a different story and any unencrypted traffic travelling accross the internet is technically suseptable, although its highly unlikely unless you are specifically targeted and someone really knows what they are doing.
