Hi there,
Does anyone know who is the highest rated SL resident?
What I mean is, the highest total rating for Appearance, Behaviour etc. with all the numbers combined as a total, or maybe just the highest rated in each particluar catagory.

No real reason - just curious!

Cheers,

It's a bit difficult to calculate because ratings have been through several phases.

Basically in one of the earlier versions of SL, rating someone only cost L$1, and you got paid L$ every week if you had high ratings. The result was that people got far more ratings than they do now, and there were "rating parties" where everyone rated each other positively no matter what, because everyone would profit as a result. This is why some of the older avatars have ratings in the hundreds or thousands.

Nowadays some groups are "into" rating far more than other groups are, so people's ratings are only a good guideline to how they're seen by those groups.

Well 5l is when people did alot of rating to be correct on this issue. Yes 1l was the thing but then again the population was wll believe 20,000 population. as for the rest of your remark you are right. Also include neg ratings..it brought down your weekly bonus i believe then it reached 20 neg rates.

And they where called "RATE ORGIES" hehhehehhe

Thank You.FOr bring up part of SECOND LIFE history :) I sure miss those days :)
Hugs :)

As for the highest rated avie i believe that was "Tatiana Stravinsky" at one time she had sky rocket rates :)

Back to the OP's original question; I know of atleast one person who has in excess of 100 for each rate. There may be older avatars with even more. As to whether this person acquired their rates at a ratings orgy I could not say. I feel an enourmous swell of pride when I get rated just once personally.

One Old timer ( yes her alt) said this to me resently.....But that her life on sl.....But I relaly do love the rate concept and wish LLabs would bring it back again in a affordable way :) maybe 10 to 12 yen per rate.

I think if it were 1 or 2L$ then people would use it reguraly and it would act as a larger sink. I love getting rated too :) I wish it were more affordable.

They changed the rating system when an escort's building rating surpassed one of the greatest builders.

hahaah oh is that the reason :p
Well I think rating would put fun back in the game also money back in the eco as well.Since we nolonger get bonus then why not bring back part of the second life historical to bring back some the older concepts that helped bring up soical ( MEETING PEOPLE )popularity of the game.
When I entered sl oct 2004 rates where 5L per rate. and many rated every day and met many people. To this day I find my rates on people i met a long time ago. Its the concept to reason why rates was meant to do. Make friend and renew people relations. I am 2 + years in game now and i still like seeing old people who I rated in the past. Bring back fun and some of the great times I had on sl. Thank you Strife for adding on to this topic. Its does the heart warm.

BTW the population in a whole was less so the number of people in the game rated or being rate was less back in the less populated days. SO thats the seasoning why I said 5 was more of a base of the popular times of rating the increase of the members.

Happy Hoildays Strife :)

I'm pretty sure that for a very long while Barbie Fauna was the highest rated AV. There used to be a listing on the website here that was updated every week... thus was the basis for the rating orgies, aside from the stipend bonus... folks love seein thier names up in lights like that. I used to follow it because Barbie was a friend of mine and used to hang at my place when we had the original Isle of Lesbos. I couldnt be positive at this point, but with ratings in the THOUSANDS, I would give Barbie the prize for not only winning at the ratings orgies (you Go girl!!!! :D ) but also just for sheer longveity on the history of the Ratings charts.

I'm actually very confused about the current rating system. Shortly after they changed the price of ratings to $25 they enacted a rating fade so to speak because there were so many newbies complaining that they couldn't compete with the older players who had tons of ratings, because of the new pricing they couldn't ever stand a chance of catching up. Basically ratings you got 6 months back or earlier were erased, this was supposed to be a constant thing, ie. each month ratings you got 6 months back would be erased. A lot of people complained that if they spend $25L to rate someone they didn't want that investment to disappear after 6 months so...I'm not sure what they are doing now.

I personally don't rate anymore because it's just not worth $25L...

I do also miss the $1L ratings mostly because they did help people meet eachother. I had a lot of conversations start simply because someone was thanking me for the rating....yes this was at one of the rating parties..but then again every event back then was a rating party. Anytime you showed up somewhere you got busy rating everyone you could find and they usually rated you back.

I say bring back the $1L...it would probably be a much better sink than the $25L rating. I could care less about the bonus.

Ratings are great conversation starters, I couldn't count the friends I have I met that way ^_^

I say we make a feature suggestion.

Wow! Thank you for answering a mystery for me. I felt so inadequate when I was with my friend who had hundreds of positive ratings. Now I know how she got them! (all deserved, BTW).

Rating used to be such fun, I also miss those $1 rating days.

Personally I enjoyed the unofficial sport of 'rating catching' - it was considered manners to rate someone back if they rated you. Sometimes you would get rated in a crowded room and then spent a while trying to find your rater. Similarly it was a challenge to rate someone and avoid them finding you without actually tping away.

And yes, it certainly did get conversations going. A friendly rate to someone who you thought had a really great avatar or rating a build you came across on your travels.

It was also such a pleasure for newbies. Getting those first few really made you feel good, silly, but true. And of course newbies could afford to reward people who helped them, making both parties feel nice. Nowadays newbies can't do that, and I for one always feel worried that if I rate a very polite or friendly newbie (a pleasure to deal with when there are so many rude ones nowadays), I have rated a couple and then had them get upset because they can't afford to rate me back. (not that I want it, but they feel they should, that is the point)

Lindens - please, can we have the $1 rate back? It would also be good for the economy as heaps more will be spent on that than is on the current $25 one.

Yes indeed! I got rated on about my second day. I didn't even understand what had happened. I could not find who did it .. but it felt like birthday and christmas all rolled up into one!

I'm not positive but I think at this point the only time your ratings would go down is if the person who had rated you actually cancelled thier account. I haven't noticed my own ancient ratings evaporate even tho they did significantly in that first big wipe. But it would be interesting to know what became of the policy.

Yes, I still smile when I realised that just for a few weeks, just after I joined, you could log into Second Life and select View -> Leaderboards and view the high score tables.

No, I'm not joking. There was one for ratings and one for L$, and categories for total and biggest change.

Sometimes when I rate people I give them something like a hundred dollars because only newbies wear $25 accessories ;).

Ratings are completely screwed up. At one time people complained that oldbies ratings were unfairly high compared to newer people, and there were also problems with the ratings system being abused (like the rating parties someone mentioned earlier). Because ratings translated into stipend LL decided to wipe all the ratings and start fresh, and new ratings were supposed to expire after a certain amount of time. The expiration never worked so ratings didn't expire and I don't think they ever fixed it so as a result many of us had hundreds (or even thousands) of ratings wiped out. That's why you'll see many of us who've been here since 2003 or 2004 with very low ratings. The whole system is pretty much a joke at this point and not at all representative of the number of times people have actually been rated.

I checked... you still got my vote Chip!
But yeah, I sniffled when hundreds of my ratings disappeared. On a positive note, I actually got a rating this week, and it still made me feel all fuzzy. Gamed to death or not (I never did go to any ratings parties, tho I had been to a lot of places where people threw the ratings around liberally), a genuine rating still makes me smile, maybe even moreso now that I know it must be sincere.

If you counted up all the ratings for those of us that are Ulrika's alts, you'd probably find that she... er... WE are the highest rated person in SL.

(Sorry... Old joke going back a few months.)
