Okay so this question was proposed by a friend and I explained i would try to find a concrete answer.

On a parcel of land is it possible to run multiple television sets on one parcel or would the media settings of auto play ( if enabled ) conflict with each other

(ie:) one tv upstairs in the bed room another down stairs in the living room both with own settings etc.

Would people be able to watch both tv's on the land at the same time on different channels

I know some have what they call slave tv that plays the same thing as the main tv but he is wanting 2 separate television/dvd

Thanks..

There is one media stream per parcel. So all media players see the same show.

It's possible, but not with the normal TVs you'll find in almost all stores or for free.

The usual TV scripts just manipulate the parcel-wide media settings (shown in About Land / Media). For different people to see different media, a script instead would use PARCEL_MEDIA_COMMAND_AGENT to denote which person's media stream to change.

It's actually insanely easy to set it up so each person can choose their own stream. It's trickier to reliably associate a stream with people in a particular area (like upstairs and downstairs) without doing something complex for the user to configure. There are some products that do this, with varying degrees of success.

Note that at any one time, a particular agent only gets one parcel media stream, so in this example, if you're downstairs and cam to the upstairs TV, you'll still see the downstairs stream. There's a trick to make it appear that you're seeing multiple streams, by multiplexing different media onto different sections of the same stream and using texture offsets, but that's not really practical for anything but demonstrations.

In the medium term future, however, there will be prim-specific media using the new Media API, so I wouldn't recommend spending much on any elaborate solution based on the current functionality (even though I sell a skypod that has separate media control on two levels).

What Qie said. I've never worked with PARCEL_MEDIA_COMMAND_AGENT, but see http://johannahyacinth.blogspot.com/2007/08/more-fun-with-media.html for an example. And there are some more examples and discussion at /54/95/209152/1.html.

Ooh! Good to hear. :)

*Ahem* if anyone in charge is listening, why not link up Amazon or Blockbuster videos on demand with Second Life media? I wouldn't mind renting films on demand that way.
