heyas;

every time 2l crashes on me, i have the crash logger set up to send automatic reports. i figure, hey, they could learn something about some glitch and maybe fix it! haha, but isn't that what people are supposed to think about sending error reports to microsoft? i mean, honestly, you think microsoft has time and people to go through every glitch report and fix YOUR computer so windozw works with it? nah, i think it's just to make you feel as if you're accomplishing something, instead of cursing a blue streak at them every time you crash.

but now, what about linden labs? smaller company... more specialized product.... you think they're listening? you think they DO anything with those? or can i save time by just turning it off and not worrying about it?

I leave it on cause I'm an optimist and there must be a file somewhere storing all the crash reports.

Given that my crash logger usually crashes shortly after it starts.. I prefer to just leave it off. It drives me batty, but that's what you gotta do from time to time.

What I found disapointing is that a crash logger will only give you a list of restarts. There is no distinction between an actual sim crash, a grid-wide rolling restart, an owner requested restart, or an update restart. If it is a private island sim, you can get the concierge to tell you if you are having crashes due to something wrong with the sim. I asked once and found out about two crashes relating to avatars colliding with objects. It is a shame that there isn't any way to log details like an "event logger" iin most operating systems - who, what, where, why.....

I allways use the crash logger. LL need all the help they can get so i'm happy to use the facility as they went to the effort of including it.

I usually never send those things to Microsoft or anywhere, and didn't for a while here. But one of the Silicon Heads here who's opinions I value believes they do make a difference, so I send them now. It can't hurt.

Oh, sending crash reports to Microsoft is a different matter. I would rather sand paper my own testicles than support Bill Gates and his evil army of bug producing software creators. LL are different as they are not run by Bill "Bastard face" Gates.

I quit sending them long ago.

For the past six months or so, to quit SL, I've had to crash out by pressing control/alt/delete most of the time.

I figure that's the way it's supposed to work.
