It sure seems that way. Now people are debating their personal points of view with personel attacks thrown in for good measure.

LL closed General so people feel the need to post somewhere else.

Simple solution is to give us back the forums.

I am so glad I don't have to moderate the blog.

I don't mind voicing displeasure, but people get ticked off when they lock the comments, and others get ticked off at personal attacks. LL can't win. I don't agree with a lot that LL does, but I think they should close comments once it gets to personal attacks on them, or any resi.

Simpler and more economical solution is to get rid of the user forums entirely, including the content creation forums.

This would reduce Linden's forum expenses to zero and allow user sites such as sluniverse and stratics and secondcitizen to flourish.

Well, debating and discussing can't be wrong. LL is looking for input there, aren't they? Some questions only arise due to a discussion. Personel attacks are going too far of course.

Well, closing official forums is never a good idea, imho. It shows that a company has no ear for their customers and doesn't like criticism. They get a lot of input here, even if it's sometimes only the overall mood of the community.

Venting and ranting (unless it degrades into personal attacks) might not give a good outside impression, but it does serve an important function. Closing general caused the blog to turn into the place-to-be for that and to some extent Resident Answers or Linden Answers. If they close RA then LA will get swamped and the content creation forums will become useless because the noise level will just get too much for helpful discussion or Q&A. To a whole lot of people those forums are invalueable because it gets them the answers/help they'd otherwise quite possibly never get unless they knew the right person in-world.

There's probably quite a few people who enjoy fuelling the flames, but I'd bet that for the most part angry/upset posters feel better once they hit the submit button because they had a way to vent whatever was bugging them and know that someone is going to end up reading it and that's enough already. Or maybe I'm just being very naive :).

I don't see migration to resident-run forums ever happening, if only because it takes an extra effort to sign up (that's what would keep me from moving over anyway :p), except maybe for small communities of people who already have some way of communicating with each other anyway.

The forums weren't closed down because they didn't want to hear our feedback and criticism. It was closed due to repeated violations of the TOS and countless parody and meaningless threads, which proved too much for them to handle. Basically it collapsed due to resident abuse.

Regarding the so called 'feedback', many of the caustic comments about LL that the residents say here, they would probably not say them in a similar manner to a Linden in person. Listening to some of the residents that called in to the recent townhall, they tend to turn into a slobbering mess. Its always easy to be caustic when hiding behind the forums.

Linden Lab is hiring. Maybe some here might want to apply for some of the support positions?
