mystery objects deeded to group

i am the owner of a group that owns some land. under the objects tab of the land profile, it lists the number of prims on the land and who owns them.

sometime during this past week there has appeared, in addition to group avies' names, the name of the group itself followed by a prim count. i have been told that only objects deeded to the group itself will show up this way.

as far as we can tell, no one has deeded any objects to the group. i have checked slx boxes, security orbs, land management boxes, etc.. and none of them are group deeded. i guess that leaves some random landscaping prims that have accidently been deeded to the group.

anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

granted, it's only 8 prims out of more than 3000 ... but ... it's a puzzlement!

In the About Land -> Objects tab, when you click on the group name, does anything on the land get highlighted?

i tried that this morning, meade.

i have a few apple and plum trees that drop fruit randomly. when i highlighted the group name in the objects tab, some of the fruit on the ground are highlighted.

not all.. but some.

and the same fruit is highlighted if i select a different prim count entry.

yet the count itself never changes regardless of how many fruit have dropped.

and no, brash, i have no tv or radio.

Does the fruit disappear after a minute or so?

Could be a bug with the way temp-on-rez objects are reported..

just went in game and took a closer look...

each tree has 3 fruit to drop. each drops and stays for a minute or two then disappears. when it first drops it is NOT highlighted when i highlight the prim owner line in the about land profile. after a few seconds, it DOES become highlighted. then after another minute it disappears.

so now i know.

tho why the count remains at 8 or why this never listed in the objects tab before.. who knows?

at least the mystery is solved. thanks meade.

Egon, if one is wearing the group title when rezzing or building, those objects will be set to group. You do not have to explicity set an item to the group manually. If you want items to be set to "none", be sure to not be wearing any group labels.

Egon, my stupid newbie guess would be that the tree has placed eight invisible fruitrezzers on your land. They rez the "dropped fruit" at random intervals, which would account for the prim count being constant while the number of fruits varies.

But this is only a guess, as what I don't know about scripted objects would fill all the books there are on the subject.

there are 7 apple and 4 plum trees that do this temp-on-rezz (which is rather cool... fruit appears in the tree, drops to the ground and rolls to a stop according to the terrain). i've looked in "contents" of the trees and each has 3 "fruit" objects. so technically i COULD have 21 fruit on the ground at once. tho i've never seen that many at any one time.

it's the prim count of 8 that is confusing ... but maybe it's a lag in updating the count in the object tab.

the fact that this line entry was never there before last week ... maybe a bug ... or a new feature ... or a bug masquerading as a feature.

anyway, thanks to all. this pretty much clears things up for me.

:D

Temp-rezzed prims do NOT show up in the Land Window prim count, so they are not included in the 8 prims you see listed. They may get highlighted, but those 8 prims belong to something else that is permanent.

since the dropped fruit behave like physical prims ... could they NOT be temp-on-rezz but actual prims that are "deleted" after a time and so show up in the prim count?

I don't think temp-on-rez cares about physical or not..

Yes, there could certainly be a script in the fruit that deletes it after a couple minutes. Upside of doing this is that you get more control over how long it stays around - temp objects get deleted by the server. Downside is that non-temp objects go against the parcel prim count.

this is true meade. besides the trees, i have some squirrels that drop acorns. between the trees and the critters, my prim count varies quite a bit. sometimes i can see it increase and decrease by more than 50 prims in a few minutes.

but since both the trees and the squirrels are owned by me and set to the group, i can see no way that the acorns and apples are then "owned" by the group.

i think ava is right tho when she says that those 8 prims are from something else besides the trees i've been focusing on.

Well, since you said that the appearance and disappearance of the fruit do NOT affect the count of prims in the Land Window, it seems far more likely that the fruit is temp-rezzed and that the group-deeded prims counted in the Land Window belong to something else.

I know that Linden trees and grasses do not get highlighted by the Show command. Frankly I find the Show command only semi-useful, because more than half the time it does not actually reveal the prims in question (which in my case are probably floating randomly somewhere up in the stratosphere).

ETA: Yes, temp-rezzed stuff can still be physical.

i was wondering about the "return objects" button in that window?

could that be employed to force a return of those 8 prims ALONE. or is that playing with fire?

god, i'd hate to have all 3K of the other prims come crashing into my inventory. :-P
