About renting out land

Hi, a quick question about renting my land out to another resident. I understand about object permissions and land access permissions.

How do I allow the rentee to make that plot their 'Home'. Do I have to make them part of the group that owns that land? If so do I have to create a separate group for each plot of land that I rent out?

You need to deed the land to your group, then invite the person to the group and ensure the role the person has, has the permission box ticked to set home to land. I can't remember off the top of my head whether the everyone role has this set by default.

You don't need to create a new group for different parcels but if you have a malicious renter they could use the permissions you set on other group land but really that would be an extreme condition.

Thank you, that does answer my question. However if I sell the land don't all the members of the group get a cut of the profits? Does that mean I have to remove everyone from the group before selling any group land?

Hang on ... I've had a thought ... I guess I could sell a parcel to myself for L$0 if I needed to, then sell it on normally?

Yup also, you want to ensure that only yourself incurs financial liabilities (there's a tick box for this in the permissions).

Anyway, yes, sell the land to yourself for L$0, remove your group land contribution (you'll want to ensure you have contributed land when you deed it to the group).

Oh and most important of all, you need two people in your group at all times. So you might want to create an alt.

While I have somebody's attention (lol) can you point me in the direction of a very simple rental script, with full perms, that does the basic minimum tasks? If I start simple I can build on it as I learn more.

Lol unfortunately I can't help you there, I use hippotech and autolease and both are a bit pricey, a few thousand Lindens I think. Autolease does a free version but I can't remember if it takes a cut on the free version.

There are free ones out there though, someone offered me one once so I know they're around I just can't remember the name.

Creat a role in the group that gives people permission to set home and edit land, but don't check the box saying the get proceeds from land sales (not sure the exact wording of that permission). Never check this box when assigning roles unless you want to split proceeds with someone.

Thanks Ciaran. Anyone else know of any simple rental scripts? Doesn't have to be free, but has full perms so that I can modify and add to it.
