Let me preface this question by stating that I do know what abuse is... in RL. But what is this abuse I hear people talking about? I am sure that land greifing is part of this, but please enlighten me with more examples.
Love, lipstick, and fuzzy slippers, Jez

Damn I thought this was a classified ad Abuse can take many forms, from name calling to putting scripted objects on the ground that pretty much cause chaos. People can find they can't enter their own parcels or that the lag is horrible.

"Abuse" is anything that breaks the Terms of Service or Community Standards.

Aside from the TOS, I view it as any behavior which maliciously interferes with others' enjoyment of SL. But I also think you need to ask people to stop something if it's bothering you a great deal, especially if they're new. If they refuse, amp it up, get verbally aggressive/abusive about your request, then AR away.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

One that springs to mind is *almost* always newbie males who will constantly push me about (They walk into you so your av gets pushed where they're walking & doesn't stop until you move) while sending friendship requests/landmarks/notecards etc & sending sexually explicit IM's while all the time they have their tiny prim *attachment* out, I still have no idea *why* guys think they should walk about with everything hanging out, or behave in this way? Any guys want to own up to having done this when new?

Love, lipstick, and fuzzy slippers, Jez Just like RL it's pretty much considered whatever you don't like. I've had all types of junk thrown/shot/yelled/typed in caps at me in SL but have yet to be abused while it happens to other people everyday. It's a very subjective term these days.

I rarely abuse report the verbal, unless it's in a newbie area and really needing to go.
I abuse report spamming objects/particles that are offensive or in an inappropriate area. I also abuse report caging/shooting in non-damage areas. I also abuse report prim encroachments on my area.. if I can't get a response or get an abusive response from the prim's owner.

I suppose I have been lucky, I have not experienced these abuses first hand, well yet anyway.

Quoting from the famous(?) Daniel Linden video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2642394922604088000"You can be an asshole in SL, you can just cause mayhem if you want to. But as soon as you specifically target that at someone or a group, you’ve crossed our line. It doesn’t say where that line is , but there’s a concept there….." I suppose it is possible to "cause mayhem" which is entertainment for everybody in the vicinity. The core of "abuse" is deliberately *targetting* others in order to give them a bad time. IMO, 'targetting' encompasses not stopping when other(s) ask you to stop. In 7 months of heavy SL use the only incident of abuse that I have witnessed was the caging of a presenter at a Show and Tell. There was a Linden present, but not being from the right department could only pass a message to her colleagues.

I am thankful that I haven't encountered any of the abuse that gets mentioned. Outside of the occaisional rude-ness of some who I interact with. In those cases, it's really more of a lack of tact or personality than abuse. I wonder if it's due to the areas I hang out. I tend to go to specific clubs or semi-private small functions, rather than large public gatherings. Even still, when I've been out shopping and exploring, I really haven't seen any griefers.
