Mystery prim usage?

Last night I cleaned up my property so I could start fresh. I "took" all my furniture and finally my house. One item (a 12-prim cuddle rug) would not return to my inventory. I made sure it was not locked and kept trying. Finally I gave up and removed everything but my security orb, and other small odds and ends. To clean up these final objects, I used "Return" and when it asked if I wanted to return items to myself, I said yes.

Then I landed on my empty log and checked "about land". I expected to see that I had 117 prims available. However, it claimed that 15 prims were being "Selected / sat upon". I tried everything I could to find them, but they were not in my inventory and were not on my property. (I can't find the rug or the orb in my inventory - not in lost and found and not in recent.)

I thought logging out would help, but this morning, it still says that I have 18 prims on my property, plus these mysterious 15. When I refresh the list it does not list the 15 there as being owned by anyone - it doesn't list them at all. (I don't have any filters enabled on my inventory either - the objects are just in limbo somewhere.)

When you only get 117 prims, losing 15 of them really cuts into what you can do. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

None of this would have happened if texturing had acted like it has in the past - texturing only one side of the wall and not both! I had to redo the house because I had accidentally turned all the windows to stone - something that has never happened before when I textured the outside of my house.

Thanks!

*chews her lip* It's not showing up in the list, but shows up in the about land? Sounds like a case of ghost prims. If it were prims anchored on another property, they shouldn't show up in your prim count, or at least I don't think they do.

You may want to try using the Support Portal and the Solution Finder to see what it suggests.. and during business hours, contact LL via the Live Chat to see if one of them is willing to come out and check it. (Keep in mind that today, it is a holiday in the US, so they might not be available.)

Thanks Raudf.
I'm in the US, so I have the holiday too. I was hoping I could spend it re-doing my house as a shop, but I guess not.

I'll try those support channels though. Thanks! :)

Sounds like an old bug that hasn't gone away yet. It requires a region restart to clear the trouble.

There are threads about this on some of the other forums and Which Linden (sic) has apparently noticed this and reported it on jira.

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-242

Basically it looks as if in "fixing" the intermittent inventory loss problem when you take no-copy objects they have managed to intermittently break taking copy objects.

Thanks for the link, Matthew. I will take a look at it.

The objects I lost were 'no copy', and I doubt the vendors would just give me new ones. But losing the items is not nearly as annoying as have 15 prims taken up with invisible items I can't use. :/

<edit>
Well, I checked that link and the links off it, cleared my cache, logged back in and all that has changed is that it no longer says that 15 prims are "selected / sat upon".

However, it still says that I am using 33 of 117 prims, that there are 33 of them on the parcel, and that I own them all. But at the bottom, when I refresh, it says that my prim count is 18. I wonder what would happen if I put down a bunch more prims? Would it tell me I'd run out once I exceeded the 84 it claims I have left? Hmm...
</edit>

<edit #2>
Nope, didn't work. I filled it up and it said I had 117 prims used, but only 102 showed up next to my name when I did a refresh (even though it also said they all belong to me.) :P GRRRRRR

</edit #2>

I'm not on, so these commands are just from memory, but if you are just trying different things:

Make sure there's nothing under the ground, up in the sky, or transparent, Enable the debug menu, cntrl-alt-D, then toggle Client->Rendering-> Surface Patch. Toggle highlight transparent, cntrl-alt-T.

What's the skinny on the 0,0,0 problem? Could that be part of it? If so look at 0,0,0 in your sim.

Something to do, anyway :-D

I've added a note to say that this appears to be also occuring with no-copy objects. This is potentially more serious as the way of clearing this problem (reboot the sim) does not recover the objects themselves.

Thanks Osprey,

I just tried that actually. There was nothing under my lot (although I discovered that my neighbor has a blood fountain in his basement. LOL!)

What is the 0,0,0 problem? I haven't heard of that....

i know 2 land owners who have similar problems. one has 250 prims added on his land though he did return everything that´s not his own. the other took everything off his land because he had trouble doing anything and wanted to rebuild. but the land info still says he has all prims on the land, making it impossible to rebuild. (the land is completely empty. i went there to look myself)

both problems occured on saturday

i think we just can wait for LL to fix this later this week :-/ (maybe an option that would allow residents to make a region restart would be good)

I don't have any personal experience with the 0,0,0 thing, but I have seen it and it might still be around. Prims somehow migrate to one corner of the sim and hunker down there. I'm just talking from NO real knowledge, though. Be advised it might be of no value whatsoever, but if you are adventuous you might have a look.

Same issue happened to me yesterday. I had purchased a beautiful pool, and placed it on my land. I decided to pick it up and rez it somewhere else, but when i hit "take" it wouldnt disappear, it just remained on the land.

When i logged back in 5 hours later, the pool was missing, yet i was able to walk into it and it was using up prims on the land...when i select the "about land" button, it says 99 prims selected/sat upon. Not sure what that means.

The real kicker is this...hehe...my neighbor found the rezzed pool in the ocean, and in an offworld region. Basically half was on the underwater sand, and the other half was in this black "nether" world...lol. OH and there was a real-estate bot woman stuck in the rock too which looked funny.

Anyhow, i am still suffering, the ghost pool remains on the land and is eating prims. Sent in a bug report to the lindens, hopefully they can figure it out soon...

I'm sorry to hear about your pool, but I'm glad I'm not the only one with a problem. That *might* mean they'll do something to help. I've already submitted a problem ticket for it.

I had a possibly related problem yesterday, I had an object that I wanted to delete. I deleted it, and it wouldn't go away. I deleted it about 17 times and it wouldn't disappear and wouldn't appear in my trash. Finaly it vanished, but it was still there 'physically' as I could walk into it and stand on it.

Then this morning one of my residents IMed me, that a friend had rezzed an object on her land, and when he tried to 'take' it back, they both crashed -- making me suspect that the whole sim might have crashed. Anyhow, when she logged back on, the object was 'gone' but still there, i.e. it was an invisible obstruction.

In both cases (my undeletable object and her friend's untakeable object) I checked show-transparent and neither object was there, as if the rendering system had flagged the object as gone while the physics engine still had the object there.

I ended up restarting the sim, but I didn't have a chance to go and check if that fixed things for her. It did fix things for my undeletable object.

The invisible, undeletable prims

I had this problem last night as well. I submitted a ticket through that new online portal thingy and it was fixed within a few hours by restarting the SIM.

I had a similar problem on my land a few days ago, a friend rezzed an obect there and tried in vain to take it back .. nor could i return it or delete it. The obect did not show in Abut land / obejcts and went invisible as well but we could still bump into it.

Problem was soved when the SIm im in was restarted.

I'm having the 0,0,0 / ghost prim problem in Salerio as well. My poor neighbor lost her expensive no-copy bed, which now can be seen on my parcel at 0,0,0. It doesn't affect my prim count, or the count for the three open Linden ocean regions on my border. The item DOES still show up in her prim count, as "selected / sat upon".

It gets weirder though. Sometimes I see the bed, sometimes I don't. And when three people stood right there, two of us saw it, and one didn't. And just for fun, a race car shows up on top of it every now and then!

Oh, and sometimes walking through it makes my av invisible! Walking back the way I came brings me right back.

We have tried everything we could think of to deal with the objects, but no dice. It sounds like a region restart is needed, so I've submitted a support ticket.

QUESTION:
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if this bug is somehow caused or affected by mega-prims? One of my neighbors has built a skyscraper out of about 40-50 mega-prims, most non-phantom. I've been in other places where the smaller ones (40x40) didn't cause problems, but this is my first experience with so many of them all in one sim. Other bugs are showing up as well, none of which I've ever seen in my home sim.
