new shape - wrong gender

Hi, I have been told by other residents that my face looked somehow female, which is correct. I searched through the knowledge base and created a new shape, but whenever I create a new shape, I get a female shape at first. Later I can ckick the 'male' radio button, and the shape is tweaked to look more male, but finally it doesn't look right. I have tried to edit my profile, but found no way to correct that. Are there other residents who get wrong gender shapes? Thanks a lot for your help!

Hello and welcome. I started off with a female and subsequently reverted to type and yes, the same thing happened to me.

With much adjusting of skin and shape I slowly managed to get Bilbo more male. As I started exploring this fascinating world I found freebies with male shapes and skins which were even more convincing.

Look around and you'll find a wide variety. It's the adjusting and tuning of the avatar that really pulled me into SL but there's oh so much more when you start looking :)

Get to grips with 'Make outfit' in Appearances. By making a folder of shape, skin and clothes etc you can quickly and easily change entire sets with a simple drag of the folder.

All SL Avatars are, really, female. The mesh is for a female form, and selecting male just reshapes it. What can I say, all guys in SL start out looking bishi. *grins* Tweaking the sliders more and selecting a male skin can do a lot to make you look more 'macho.'

Much like the RL process in the womb...

Thanks a lot for your quick replies, at least I know now that it's not my fault if I get female shapes at first. But, frankly, I didn't expect that my second life in SL would begin with a sex reversal surgery ;-)

I made a male shape and have been giving it to people to try :) shoot me an IM if you'd like to try it out for yourself.
