We're totally digital crack addicts.

We can't wait to get back in so we can complain about all the stuff that doesn't work and the money we lose through dissappearing inventory and billing problems!

I'm glad I'm not one of the fools that quit their day jobs to make a living off this thing, though! ;)

Heh. True. Any self employment is a gamble I guess, but this is ridiculous.

I quit my night job because it was ruining what was left of my health. Until the government gets off their collective lazy butts and gives me the disability money I'm owed, SL is my only source of income. I agree that depending on a virtual business is shaky at best, but some like myself have no other option. LL knows there are businesses in-world, even encouraging them to be bigger, but they don't seem interested in taking the responsibility that entails. If LL messes up, THEY must take responsibility for the downtime they've caused the businesses. If a web hosting service goes down, taking with it client websites, they are expected to fix the problem quickly, and possibly reimburse said clients if the downtime was severe. It's true that no system is perfect and problems will arise. But the difference is that a good business will ACT like one. LL's core members are amateurs for the most part, and their system tells the tale. I can live with silly mistakes like poor UV mapping and weird rigging, there are ways around it. But messing up the entire program is unacceptable. I kind of wish a competitor world or two would spring up. Competition is wonderful for forcing good work. ;)

I'm stoked about PS3's "Home" and it's potential...if the PS3 can become worth the pricetag! They're even talking about user-created content being an option eventually!

/me crosses fingers.

The problem is, though, that just one or two features won't cut it. Active Worlds has user created content, as do others. Phantasy Star Universe offers exploration, rolepaly, and teamwork. There has socializing and exploring, but doesn't use real money. Fun, but not unique. What makes SL special is that it has everything. No limit to user created content, anything and everything can and does exist. Real money can go back and forth, even turning a real-world profit for a few. SL is the only one that's virtually infinite. I don't care much about the other virtual worlds out there, because of various limitations. Things that are just fun, but not productive, don't get a very big chunk of my time and attention. For me, SL is a creative outlet, challenging my skills, and making some money in the process.

Until someone else does that (which could actually be infringement of some sort O_o ) LL won't have competition, and they can do whatever the heck they want and they know at least some people (like myself) will stick around because there's no where else to go.

Wow, we are pathetic junkies XD

Just for the record, ideas can't be copyrighted, only their execution.

So the ideas used by LL are fair game for anyone who executes them in another way, ie. using another code base.

From what I've learned looking about other places you are right. They all have some thing or another that is interesting, perhaps even done better than SL. But SL seems to have a wider possibilty for anything that the others. Especially anything PS3 based. That's fine for kiddies and young adults but the real disposable cash is in the hands of people who own PC's but probably won't be buying a PS3. Besides, we worry about a Sanitized Disneyfied SL, anything Sony puts out will be so mainstream, it'll make Mayonaise on Whitebread seem spicy. I think SL's demise will come at it's own hand, not at those of any competitor.

Beebo, please stop using the word "Execute". It frightens me ......
