crashes when making menu selections

I experienced intermittent crashes over a period of about 3 weeks, invariably it was happening while making a selection on almost any blue menu. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling both the regular and firstlook viewers. I continued to have the crashes and contacted support. They tried to help but to no avail. I had a thought that possibly my mouse was the culprit, so i installed a wired microsoft mouse vs a wireless logitech mouse. Problem solved. It appears that the mouse was somehow double clicking when I was single clicking the selection. Hope this helps someone if they have a similar problem, it was driving me bonkers.
