Object return on rez - off world

"Second Life: Your object has been returned to your inventory lost and found folder because it went off-world."

Yes, I filed a bug report. Based on the reactions I see of those who have file bug reports in the past, however, I have no expectation of receiving information from it.

Therefore, I'm posting here to ask if anyone else is experiencing this issue and if they know of a work-around.

I know for a fact the object I attempted to rez hasn't got physics enabled. The land I attempted rez on is owned by me. I tried it both in the skybox and on the land level. I'm really at my wit's end.

Thanks for any guidance!

Could you tell us more about the object?

Surely (PS: this is mainland. Osterhout)

1)
A lamp
Freebie
Created by Eric Linden

2)
A rug
Created by me

3)
A couch
Created by me

None of these items have physics enabled. None would put me over the prim limit on my land.

How Odd
12-28-2006 12:37
I fiddled with the options and set object entry to "all residents" rather than group members and now stuff rezzes properly (I am the owner of the group the land is deeded to, btw).

Wasn't like this yesterday. Anyone else know why this might be happening today?

Did you have the land-owning group active when you tried to rez the objects earlier?

The only change between yesterday and today is that in order to rez an object, I had to change the "Object Entry" on the land from "Group" to "All residents"

I've owned this land for months. I also don't see how (with non physical objects) they'd go "off-world"

Problem Solved

I have been having the same irritating problem, I have not had a problem with this before, only noticed it yesterday for the first time. I also used Bug Report, but expect never to get a response from LL - Nothing beats 1st class customer service!!!!

Anyway, after reading your post I tried setting object entry to ALL and like you.. it solves the problem. Thank you for your help Dea! Maybe I should start paying my $9.95 a month to you!!!

You're not *supposed* to get a response to a bug report. Bug reports are NOT a customer support request, and I have read numerous times on this blog and elsewhere that bug reports will not receive responses since hundreds if not thousands of people may report the same bug, and replying to each message will only sap resources better spent on dealin with the issue.

So file your bug reports to help out the programmers, and contact customer service if you have a problem that can (presumably) be addressed without rewriting code.

I've gotten a personalized e-mail twice when a bug I reported was actually fixed (it was a short "This has been fixed in our code" or something to that extent). It's the only two that actually have been fixed as well, so I'm leaning towards a no response = no fix :p.

Another two times I had a Linden contact me for a follow-up as well, which was actually very reassuring that someone does read them, or some of them :).

Kewl! I'd get a big kick out of such a response, but I don't expect it to happen and neither should anyone else. That kind of expectation just exacerbates the "they're not listening" reaction that runs rampant on the forum.

I work with programmers and I know that if they're good -- and I presume that LL hires the best -- they love what they do and they're trying their best to fix things. Best may not be good enough, and god knows even the best programmers make mistakes, but that failure is not due to apathy.

The average person has no idea how difficult it is to make changes to a complex programming system that is supposed to scale over multiple platorms, countless computer system confirguations and heavy user loads. Fix one thing, break another is all too easy to do, and we work with systems that aren't even a fraction as complicated as those that LL has created. Unreal expectations about the pace of coding patches also contributes to a lot of unnecessary and undeserved scorn thrown at LL.

No doubt you are correct, nevertheless I was directed to file bug reports on my missing inventory....by a Linden.....in a response to my email to support. So, I don't know. In any case, it's all a lot of smoke and mirrors, as my missing inventory remains missing.
