Hello,
I have finally rented an SL dwelling and have begun furnishing it. (I am more or less a newbie in this regard.) All of the furniture I purchased looks great inside my cottage except for the bed, which I think was created way out of scale to the human body/avatar size. It's too high, too long, and too wide--to the point of being comical.
I have stretched other objects (making them larger or smaller) with success; however, these objects were simple, such as a picture frame or a rod that connects the ceiling to a chandelier. The bed is obviously much more complex.
When I choose to "stretch" the bed in order to make it smaller, the resizing handles do not appear around the bed. Can tbe bed not be resized due to its multiple prims or complexity? Or does each prim of the bed need to be resized separately? And if the latter is the case, how do I select each prim separately?
I suspect I'm probably not seeing something obvious here.
Thank you! Avanti

you may need to click the 'edit linked parts' square and resize each piece individually. some items don't allow it though, so be careful not to resize one part, and find yourself locked out from making nay further changes.
i once had a stairway floating 1/2 in the air because i did that, and could never fix it, nor change the other parts.

Avanti the usual cause is that the bed is "no modify".... check the object properties to see if you have the appropriate right. If not.... not much you can do other than to ask the creator to let you have one with that right. Don't hold your breath though... Inc

I have also recently learned that objects in SL are very large to accomodate the cameras. It's not a first person view so rooms have to be a lot bigger for your camera not to be embedded in a wall. Normal sized furniture gets dwarfed in the big rooms, so it gets the giant treatment too to look right from a design standpoint. I have learned to live with doorknobs at eye level and my feet not touching the floor when I sit. -- KC

Hello,
Thank you everyone for your replies and the information.
As you suggested, I checked the object's properties, and unfortunately it is "no modify."
Although I can live with a certain amount of too-large scaling, this bed is off the chart. For example, you could lay two of me end-to-end and still have room between by feet and the footboard. The bed's height and width have the same type of problem.
I'm just glad this was a $250 bed and not an animated bed for $4000 which I had considered purchasing. I'll know now to be more careful next time. If the creator won't fix the problem, I'll also know to stay away from her store/products.
Thanks again for the information!
Sincerely, Avanti Torok

It might be worth contacting the creator. I offer my customers the service of resizing objects if required and assume many more would if asked nicely

I second the suggestion of contacting the creator IF you like the bed a lot other than the size. For the creator, resizing it should not be all that hard and she may consider it to be worth the trouble for the sake of satisfying the customer.

If just one dimension on one prim in a linked object is already at the maximum or minimum allowable value, you will not be able to stretch the object.
