Short video piece. That had to important messages.

1: Some British Group, The Fraud Advisory Panel or something has decided that the sky is falling and that they're need to be regulations on L$ Exchanges so help prevent fraud. (They mentioned they have no proof of this happening now....but..but it could!!!!. Fraud Advisory Panel, Jack Thompson, American Republican Party the same people? I don't know. But you never see then at the same time)

2: Field Fisher Waterhouse is apparently opening a real law firm in SL and is seeking out clients. Oh great. Here come the E-Lawyers.

It doesn't take a genius to figure it out that you could do it on Casino websites, Porn web sites, WoW, Entropia, The Sims Online...hell, t'would be easier to do it the old fashioned way: fraudulant banks and dummy corporations.

Oh, and you can hire Field Fisher Waterhouse to make sure the Feds are invading your illegal activities legally and by the book.

Yeah this was last week or the week before, money laundering and such like. I think they were talking about taxes too on virtual world income. I'd imagine they mean when people cash in. That will be a fun one to watch.

I doubt money-laundering through SL is a problem now - the customary $10,000 trigger point requiring banks to notify the US government of a transaction would be about L$2.7 million. But as SL grows and the money in it grows, it likely will be a problem. They're just anticipating, I think.

As for taxing income in-world before it is converted to RL currencies - a fool's errand. If they try, it will be fun to watch. [grin]

I did notice that two people bought over $800,000 USD in sims in the new continent; many others spent in the $200,000 range. That would be a good way to clean up money.

Also, I claim SL expenses on my Corp account..it is a very real tax environment for us. And I'm sure IBM, and other corps are claiming expenses as well. Setting up a business in SL is just like RL and you can claim your expenses as business related.

Slow news Week, I guess CNN ran out of ducks stuck in storm drains and dysfunctional celebrities to scintillate thier Viewers.

The clip did further enlighten us as to why we are now going to have a "selective verification system." They wanna catch people who are doing their laundry! *ducks* Because they want to catch people laundering the money through the site. Umm.. yeah, that'll work, given that we can CHOOSE not to verify. So, another 'reason' shot down.

Why am I not suprised that Jack Thompson's name is up there? Isnt he being investigated for fraud himself?

Also, Second Life was just featured on the NBC evening news. The segment covered the use of SL as a virtual place of worship, and showed avatars in a church setting watching streaming video of RL sermons.

Maybe the minor media feeding frenzy on ageplay has died out............

Jack Thompson is the WORST type of lawyer you could run into!!!

He's the moron who's convinced all these gun-toting crazy kids played video games to learn how to pull a trigger.

According to his thinking- Playing Video Games makes you a psychopathic killer. Doesnt matter if its Mario or Doom.

Two possibilities occur to me: 1. After a burst of publicity on one side of a story with legs, news editors want to find the "counter-story." 2. Maybe a devoted SL Resident operating undercover at NBC News?

Well, I've got about 6500L$ as of today, which is about £12 British money. How much I made from things I've made and sold, how much from land deals and how much is from saved stipends is lost in the mists of time!
