Why isn't inventory minimizable by default?

I originally posted this in the Linden Answers forum, which is now closed and like many other legitimate questions there was no reply when there were about things like "Is this weekend going to more of the same"

In the skins/xui/en-us folder the top line of the floater_inventory file reads at the end

can_minimize-"false"

Each patch after modding it goes back to false instead of true. I'm sure many residents would like to be able to minimize inventory, especially during a search.

The map and other windows can be minimized by default, why isn't inventory set this way?

During an update would take someone 5 seconds to change it to "true" as the default.

My best guess is that an open inventory keeps so much information in your SL session that it contributes to lag and/or system crashes.

In absence of proof saying "true" is not going to cause any problems, I'll bow to LL's default value. But I will admit it would be nice.

I'm wondering what benefit a minimized inventory would provide. Maybe I'm missing something. Care to explain?

The state of the search and your position in the inventory is preserved when it's minimized.

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks. I guess it never occurred to me since I'm so acclimated to ignoring the inventory window when it turns transparent. I just kind of look through it, and don't even see it. Minimizing it would definitely be better.

Every time I get an offline/online notice from my friends list my inventory (if filtered on a search) jumps back to the top anyway. Not much reason to keep it live :)

Close the calling cards folder and that won't happen :).

They just need to fix the inventory so that the damn folders stay closed when you close and re-open the inventory.

I'll agree with that! That drives me crazy. If there's a way to keep folders from re-opening each time I open inventory, I haven't found it yet.

The only way i've found to keep the folders closed is to open a 2nd inventory window, then close the first. Once the first window is closed, while the 2nd is still open, it's gone forever along with all those locked open folders.

The 2nd will open with the folders closed, and they will stay that way until you actually open a folder.

Unfortunately this is a very annoying and tedious way of dealing with something that was fixed once before, but broken again during an update (or is that backdate, all things considered?).

If you have two inventory windows open so you can drag stuff from one to the other do you sorta have to drag around the dialog box and sneak in from the left side so that you don't cross the scroll bar and make it lose your place?

Folders opening in a separate window (like any normal file system) would go a long way to simplifying use of inventory.

Or you can join a monastery, trash all your worldly goods in inventory, empty trash, and become a monk. "Owa tana siam... owa tana siam..."

Inventory minimization by default? I'd love it! :)

I'm new, so maybe I'm missing something, but I definitely agree with the previous posts.

* Inventory window should have a minimize button

* If Inventory can remember when you last opened a folder, then why can't it remember whether you left the folder open or closed, and leave it that way.
